As for the checks themselves, I heard a various array of thing, from fraud so the check bank accounts match and you are who you say you are, to an inspection, but inspections they'll contact you to tell you your going to be investigated, so I'd think it is genuinely to see if your not someone else pretending to be you0

I called about 4 days ago to be told my return was having security checks n to call bk after may 18 if I hadn't heard bk with a decision
Then I called again yesterday to be told the bk log is on people from 7th to 11th due to computer issues... There working.thru it all.. She did end up looking at my file after persuasion, she didn't give much away, but Deffo didn't say anything about the security check or the 18th like my first call few days before
I have no.idea where my money is or when I will receive it. I'm in the same boat as everyone lol #relying on it
Dunno if anything will happen over the weekend0 -
Hi I'm in same boat as everyone else waiting for 2 repayments did tax return for SA on 8th claimed repayment on 9th been pending since. And made an amendment to 2013/14 tax return on the 12th and that has been pending since too. Have rung several times to be told different things and have also sent two emails on thurs with no reply to either of them. Not sure if mine is held up with security check or just in the backlog from the 8th/9th saga but feeling very stressed with it! System doesn't update until tues morning now 😡😡😡😡 just wish they would give you a straight answer either way! Will keep updating this0

The email they send back is quite difficult to find but where it says messages it wasn't there I found it I went back to home page for hmrc profile and found the reply there it wasn't on my actual self assessment page.0

I sent my return on 6th and on the 9th I requested the repayment.
Also I sent for a few friends from 7th to about 18 and requested repayment for all of them on the following day.
Everyone up until 12-13/04/2015 has already received the repayments except for me which I am under extra security checks.
So If you requested your repayment up until 12-13 and still didn't received it means you are under the extra security checks.
From what I noticed these checks occur when something has changed : name, address, bank account...
So it means that they are checking that you are who you say you are and that the money goes in the right bank account.
This is a good thing but they could save a lot of time just by asking you to go to an HMRC office and identify yourself.
Also from experience I can tell you that it doesn't take up until the last day to finish these check it is usually about 2 weeks extra so about 14 days since the date you should have received.0
