There is a provision for charging someone if they cause an accident, although presumably not if it involves them being hit. Otherwise jaywalking doesn't actually exist in this country. It's not Germany where crossing the road without waiting for the green man is actually an offence. We have ways of making you walk.
Railways are a different matter. You're not allowed to be on the track.
Er, actually, I read somewhere that NI is the only part of the country where jaywalking *is* an offence... good luck getting anyone to enforce that, though...0 -

I think generally people just "suit themselves" these days, paying little or no attention to other road users.
Sadly that whole attitude is prevalent throughout society these days.0 -
qwerty yuiop:Like everything else on the road, you're supposed to be ready for it.
Yes, expect the unexpected. But as motorguy alludes to, where does this stop?
Should I be driving round everywhere expecting there to be an elephant round every corner (this was a TV advert, wasn't it?!), or a grand piano to fall from the sky, and be able to stop?
Should I even get into my car?
Stay indoors?
Hide under a table?
I certainly agree that 30mph past loads of drunk pedestrians is unwise BTW.0 -

Ah yeah it's not the same as it was when we were young is it? Back then, you could go out for the night, relax, enjoy yourself, get caught in an explosion. Good wholesome fun in more innocent times. Or get home to find there'd been a shooting in the street. We didn't know how lucky we were.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0
