What the heck is going on on our Roads??

I know you are.. but where do you draw the line.... it's one thing a child, animal or the likes with no real road awareness running out onto the road, it's completely another if someone, who should be well aware of the "rules of the road", decides they fancy crossing the road without bothering to look or give due regard to oncoming traffic... that's just downright irresponsible ..
People should be more responsible for their actions......0 -
Yeah, spot on, OP - pedestrians are responsible for the deaths on our roads. Jesus wept
If a drunk pedestrian walked out in front of you giving you no chance to stop, and you killed them, does that make you responsible?
Pedestrians certainly don't mow people down, but they can be 'responsible' for their own death or injury.
Goto the Omeau Rd at 08.30 on a weekday. Speeding isn't a problem here - running red lights, driving in bus lanes, and parking on a Clearway is.0 -
Surely there can't be that many people left without the survival instinct.Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

Like everything else on the road, you're supposed to be ready for it. Anyone driving through Bradbury place at 30 mph after midnight at the weekend is guilty of dangerous driving, since drunk people are all over the street. The speed limit in similar areas of Dublin is now 30 km/h (19 mph) for that reason - you as the driver are in charge of a killing machine. Pedestrians' stupidity or inebriation (or both) are irrelevant.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -

So dont bother (re)educating people as to road safety, just let pedestrians do whatever they want and then blame the driver?
If you're a pedestrian and on the road and not paying due care and attention you should be done for jaywalking.
Likewise if someone is that drunk that they arent in control of their actions to the extent where they cause risk to themselves, other pedestrians or road users, then they should be done for being drunk in a public place / public disorder.
Problem is the police here havent the balls to do it. Far easier to ignore the problem then prosecute some poor sod who happens to clip someone who shouldnt have been there in the first place.
And conversely, pedestrians need to be aware that they are in a zone whereby cars "could" be doing speeds up to 30mph, and they need to act accordingly.
Where do you draw the line on this then? If someone walks out in front of a train, is it the train drivers fault if they get hit? Or - god forbid - do pedestrians in that case have to take responsibility for their own actions and be aware that there may be a vehicle approaching?0 -
The law supposedly favours the pedestrian, except on motorways. There is a provision for charging someone if they cause an accident, although presumably not if it involves them being hit. Otherwise jaywalking doesn't actually exist in this country. It's not Germany where crossing the road without waiting for the green man is actually an offence. We have ways of making you walk.
Railways are a different matter. You're not allowed to be on the track.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -
It's shocking to see so many poor drivers on the roads here. Every journey I take I see it, no indicators being my pet hate. Also cutting corners when turning right, never mind a car is approaching the junction and the front of the car is nearly torn off by the driver turning across the front of you. My driving instructor was fanatical about right turns, you never, ever crossed the white line dividing the middle of the road. It was the same when I was doing my HGV and PCV licences and the right turn from Upper Malone Road into Finaghy Road South was a particular favourite of the test as it's notoriously tight to turn.
I don't quite get why it has become so bad in recent years, but it all continues to deteriorate in my opinionNorn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0 -
I'd add the cross roads of the Ormeau Road and Embankment on that Bigcammy. At peak times going into Belfast there is NO Right Turn at that cross roads (The sign lights up on the traffic lights too) but it's amazing how many people disregard it..0
