    1) It didn't take so much time

    2) It didn't seem like one action at first, but then turn out to be lots of actions

    3) The prizes weren't so small for the amount of actions required to stand a fair chance of winning

    4) It didn't feel like it was just a way to help promote someone else
Any more? Have at it… ;)
I see you have just posted two wins in I won, I won, I won. Just wondering if they were from rafflecopters?

haha, I really enjoy doing the rafflecopters but then I really enjoy reading the blogs. Well the beauty ones anyway. In fact I spend so much time reading, commenting and making note of all the wonderful products that will make me look 20 again that I get nothing else done.
not all of the blogs will email you about a win and sometimes give you very short windows to claim meaning I don't trust that i'll find a win in time.
Maybe someone in the know who uses Raffs for their own blog could shed some light on this.. I assumed that once the raff finishes the blogger hits a button ( could be an hour, could be a month) and the widget automatically selects a random winner and the software notifys them. My blog WEMs have always looked very similar and are not exactly personal, even if they might look it they are clearly generated by the software.

Im still not totally convinced on the "random winner" (even tho I have won several times) because there is obviously a function to reject a winner if they have not full filled the terms.. one blog I read the other day said she had been forced to reject many before she could give her prize. No problem there if people are breaking the rules but that function could therefore be game for bending the rules to their advantage too.

They can reject or simply not use the rafflecopter to select the winner.

Just because they can doesn't mean they do and if the winners name is shown within the rafflecopter widget it means the RC was used to select them although it doesn't have to be the first name selected.

Won an ipad mini from quiddi compares rafflecopter a few weeks ago, I religiously done every action daily, and had some amazing rafflecopter wins over advents.

Like any other type of comp I pick and choose which ones I want to do, and prob skip over 95% of them. A bit time consuming but hey ho why shouldn't the promoter get something back for their prize!

    What goes around-comes around
  • As someone who runs rafflecopter competitions I thought I would sign up and say something.

Rafflecopter does give you the option to disqualify an entry - while I am sure some bloggers do misuse this feature this would be the same as cheaters - its a small minority that spoil it for the majority.

If you are entering a competition where there is a one option that then opens more - that first entry is the only mandatory entry all others are optional - I recently drew a competition with 10,000+ entries - the winner had preformed 2 entries: 1 being the mandatory and other being a free just click option. You don't need to do them all to win, yes it gives you more chances but only 1 entry is going to win 1 prize so you only that lucky number that is drawn.

As far as I am aware rafflecopter uses random.org (or a system the same to draw the winning number).

Gleam isn't superior, I get that for a comper (I'm one as well) its easy to click and your entered. However Gleam has many floors and it is more likely a cheat will win on one than rafflecopter. The upgraded version is slightly better (but it costs over £200 a year - so not that many bloggers will use it) as that allows you to view all entries and entrants, the free version allows you to only see the winner thus meaning they could easily have cheated there way to winning and you would have no idea. Also you can still choose to delete an entry so in that respect there is no difference between the two platforms.

As a competition promoter and someone who enters competitions I stay well clear of Gleam.

I actually started a competition where the entrants just have to comment, nothing else, no application to enter via and the competition isn't doing well. It seems like whatever you do, you can't please someone.

    Good insight. Thanks for sharing.

I guess most compers just want to 'hit it and quit it' and move on to the next one, which is why Rafflecopters aren't looked on too favourably by many because they are probably the slowest entry comps and often the prize is of lower value than many that are getting entered meaning the reward for the time is disproportionate.

Your comment about 'comment only' is interesting. I'll admit - when I click through to some rafflecopters and the mandatory entry is just comment, I sometimes click away (depending on the prize). I'd rather a twitter/facebook entry first - not comment. because you either have to say you've commented, complete other entries then remember to go and comment, or you go away from the comp to comment and have to go back to it. It's a bit of hassle.

If it's purely comment on a blog/post - no rafflecopter, and the comment is the only entry - i'm more open to that and have won quite a few that way (money magpie just sent me a WEM for one of those!)

I wouldn't mind them so much if they didn't insist on a "Post a blog comment" mandatory option, I hate them so I've given up on RC's altogether.
