A fried of mine has two big dogs, sisters, one has four legs, one has three, they both do the same things and the three legged one runs just as fast as the four legged one. Both enjoy life to the full, enjoying being let off their leads and racing around the fields near where they live. I'm sure your cat will soon adapt.

His having surgery tomorrow to remove part of his paw that's gone dead.
Lucky it hadn't spread up his leg. Friday cost £53, today £24 and tomorrow £150 ish. Good thing mum has a credit card.

That sounds fab, I hope he is on the mend soon, he should get his appetite back when feeling better. There are special high calorie foods you can syringe feed that are good for ill cats who aren't eating as much as usual.

    Good luck to Mr Cat!
Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
    And we were young.

Frankly not quite sure how that will work? Part of the paw?

Cats with 3 legs manage just fine but part of a paw removed? How will he balance himself? What did the vet say?

I've know quite a few cats with 3 legs (my sister had a cat that had to have a leg amputated) and they have all seemed to get on fine.

My sister's cat ran around so fast it was actually quite difficult to see he had a leg missing

But OP's cat would not have a whole leg amputated (yes 3 legged cats manage just fine) but just part of the foot - that is strange, never heard of this, hope the kitty will be all right re balance/walking

It sounds like the paw will still be ther but part above the tip removed- maybe a pad? So the cat will still have the toe end of the paw to walk on.
