If this story was about a woman who had given the money to a man the women on this thread would be after blood0

Well if he commits suicide then you will not have to pay it back.
Seriously you believe he GAVE you £9000 for a platonic relationship.
If he was getting sex then it certainly was an expensive (car) ride.
Of course you have to pay it back and probably DWP as well0 -
legally- don't know, im sure it would be down to the judge.
morally- I would say give him the cash back, less the depreciation of the car. £9k was 2/3 of the cars value, whats the car worth now? i would say he is entitled to 2/3 of it's current valuePlan: [STRIKE]Finish off paying the remainder of my debts[/STRIKE].
[STRIKE]Save up for that rainy day[/STRIKE].
Start enjoying a stress debt free life.....now enjoying. thanks to all on MSE0 -
I think OP crapped herself when DWP and the whole 'putting money in daughters account' to avoid scrutiny all came out. I doubt she will be back sadly :rotfl:0

The fact that has was so obsessed with status symbols that he couldn't stand to be seeing someone who drove a modest car may tell you a lot about his character, but it isn't really relevant to the OPs problem.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -

How wonderfully sexist. My stance is no different to a man gifting money to a woman, a woman gifting money to a man, or gifts between same sex couples.
The £9k was given to the OP over a year ago during a relationship. Now that the relationship is over the ex wants the £9k repaid. There was no expectation of repayment during the relationship so now that the relationship has ended the gift can't suddenly become a loan.
I might have come to a different conclusion if the OP had received the £9k and ended the relationship a month later but we're talking about a year.0 -
sell the car, pay him back what you can out of that. its the right thing to do. He was stupid putting that much in to an account anyway. Especially when you had a perfectly good car.0

It's only sexist when it comes from a man, hence my point0 -

It's sexist because you were stereotyping people based on their gender.0 -
