Isn't that the comping guide?
Used to be a sticky but no more.
The comping guide is linked to in the only sticky on the main comp section where it gets ignored just the same as when it was "solo"NEW COMPERS PLEASE READ - Competition Board - useful links

this is just my personal opinion, but i feel the comping guide is far too long and off-putting for newbies.
i know OYL started a FAQ. i will ask if she still has it.
(i think someone else did too, but can't remember who )0 -
No, I couldn't live on what I win - I work full time to pay the bills and it is a guaranteed income - which you need if you plan to keep a roof over your head
Comping to me, is a bit of fun, a bit of a thrill if you win something nice that you or a member of your family will love
I comp to win for my family, things I would have brought anyway or nice things we couldn't afforded.
I never enter comps where I wouldn't want the prize. I think it's a bit unsporting to enter comps to win an unwanted prize just to sell it on ebay or something, so I don't enter everything, but I do enter every single comp on this forum, where I would want the prize
In that train of thought, I have won four times this year so far already - Pleased as punch and is four more wins than was expecting. (none of them great £££'s wins). For example one of them was an antivirus disk, when my current antivirus had only a week to run ...really can't grumble at that as would have brought one anywayWith love, POSR0 -
Comping to me, is a nice way to treat myself. Money is rubbish here in the world of Lauren and very rarely get to treat myself... so when I win something, its lovely
its also fab at xmas as I can tick off some of my present-buying list with wins.
I have sold prizes in the past if they're worth a decent amount. But again, that money usually goes towards something I want to buy rather than towards the bills. If that makes sense?
And you shouldn't comp if it feels like a chore, you should enjoy doing it whether you win or not. If you enter to specifically make money, you'd hate it!! xxThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I have been reading alot of newspapers online and read stories like that, what I have been reading online has made it look like it is possible , but I am not saying it is what I was hoping to do, I wish I hadn't asked the question, no need for all the sarcasm and cocky comments.:(
glad i was out - you would have hated my replies :rotfl:0 -
It's a shame. The energy bill came in the post this week. Wonder if they'll accept a colouring book? :rotfl:
This made me chuckle, you don't know if you don't ask eh? :rotfl:You never learn anything by doing it right
A very special thank you to everyone that posts :heartpuls0 -
I won £10,000 in 2010 and although I've won a few nice things since then, I've won nothing to rival it since then.Personally I doubt that will happen to me ever again (although the people in the papers do seem to manage to win big consistently).
....so the alarm is set for 6am tomorrow as usual.Sealed pot challenge member #325

Hiya Fairyface.
I'd just like to say that a lot of us, maybe 99.9% of us on here see comping as a very good hobby. But sometimes it's extremely rewarding and sometimes it's extremely frustrating if you have a dry spell. I know that I would never make a living out of it, so I just potter along entering comps that I would like to win, cross everything I can without hurting meself, and ask the good luck fairy to grant me a shed full of good luck.
I'll be honest, I'm not working atm, due to redundancy, a spate of ill health and other things, so I have more free time than some, but my wins are about the same as when I was working full time a couple of years ago, and I actually do more comps now than I did before (granted some are the dailies, like the c2w's) And more people are entering comps now, which makes it harder to win things.
And while I don't make a living out of it, it's fantastic if I win DVD's and stuff as I can put things away for Christmas as gifts (my brother cost me a whole 3 pounds last year - and that's 'cos I didn't win any boxer shorts lol)
Like others have said, a lot of the newspaper stuff is padded out and this forum has had a few folks come on here asking if it's possible to make a wage out of comping. I think they see the article and think 'wow, they must win/make LOADS of money doing this, I'm having a go' Then after a couple of weeks, people come on complaining that they have spent 30 mins a day entering comps for 3 weeks and not won a sausage.
Please don't take the 'sarky' comments to heart, this is a cracking forum where the vast majority of folk are extremely helpful and friendly, and they are quick to congratulate you if you win. You just have to understand that recently a lot of the same questions that you have asked keep coming up and I think some of the regulars have not so much got miffed, but are kind of fed up with people asking the questions and not liking the answers IYSWIM? It does seem to happen a bit lately, trouble is, is that the search thingy is a bit wappy at the mo, and sometimes newbies just start a new thread and it's a bit like a merry go round.
So, if you want to have a go at comping, then just treat it as the vast majority of us do - as a great, and cheap hobby (ok, free if you don't do the texts, postal comps). Do stuff at your own pace, and if you win then that's fantastic, even the smallest of wins is a great motivator to try and win something big. And if you don't, then never mind, just try again. And if it gets to where it feels like a chore, you can stop for a while, they'll still be here when you feel ready to come back.
