Comping for a living?

Can't see how comping could realistically replace an income. Most comps are tedious data input and the returns are statistically very poor.
The up-side is mostly the strange things that turn up on your doorstep unexpectedly - last week it was a startling erotic fine art photograph and a Goan hot curry kit
Unless you can live off those you need to keep up the day job!Still cracking on....

I have been reading alot of newspapers online and read stories like that, what I have been reading online has made it look like it is possible , but I am not saying it is what I was hoping to do, I wish I hadn't asked the question, no need for all the sarcasm and cocky comments.:(
Sorry about the sarcasm, it's just that if you search this thread you will find rather o a lot of Newbie compers asking the same questions.
Can I make a living from comping? Not from winning not really.
How many competitions should I enter to get a win? One if you are very very lucky.
I could go on.
Perhaps we should have a welcome to the comping club; please don't post any threads until you have searched to see how often the question is asked sticky.Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.

They Joined sites that they then get paid to look after, promote or add competitions too.. I noticed a few of these in the paper recently but the headline and descriptions "Woman leaves work to Comp".. makes it sound like someone has gone home one day to live at the computer and win everything that's entered. The rare few Compers that make a living from it are not making that living by actually winning the Competitions but by being more hands on and into affiliates etc... Does that make sense?
I think that is where people get confused!
I agree, they are not making a living from winning but from "work" connected in one way or another to competitions.
If you already have an income sufficient to live on then comping can produce some nice treats.0 -

Not everything you read in the papers / online is true.
These "articles" get taken, fluffed around and pretty little bits added to it to make it "Good reading material" - it's all a load of c**p
Unless you can guarantee yourself to win at least two ITV comps with a prize of £10,000+ a year, there isn't a way of winning more than you would earn working.
As others have said, see it as a hobby and the wins are a bonus
Best of luckThanks to all posters :A0 -
A FAQ thread would be a good idea“I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints.” - Billy Joel

I'd rather work a full-time job, at least I know my hard work will pay off. I can enter a thousand comps a day and not win one, it's all luck.0
