I really want to get the internet at home and have just cancelled TV and Telephone with Virgin as they are causing us too many problems.
Phoned BT and they charge £125 to install a line, which is so expensive!
Anyone know of any cheaper offers (although you seem to have to have BT to get any broadbacnd at the moment).

Im afraid that any company that uses a line via an Openreach exchange will levy such a charge.
I know it is a real pain to foot the bill but if you do connect to BT they will spread the charge over the year.0 -
You're stuck with either getting a BT line installed - which you will not get any cheaper - or going for mobile based wireless (for example T-mobile's web'n'walk plus tariff for £29/month - free modem to plug in to computer via offers such as http://www.onestopphoneshop.co.uk/mobile-phones/t-mobile/usb-modem/tmobile/wnwmax12m but referal cashback via quido should save a bit more). In the long run, you may need to bite the bullet and get the line installed if you really don't want Virgin.0

Welcome to MSE Dawn5,
Bite the bullet and pay it or stay with Virgin.
Others do provide lines but they all use Openreach to do the work and although the initial cost will be less than BT I would guess you would still pay the true cost in the end one way or another.

But if you sign up to BT option1 and have BT install the line you may be able to save money on call charges by following the Heinz advice.

You will find that the installation charge price is around the £125 mark however some do charge more than BT.0

Madasafish (now owned by BT) only charge £115.
They don't have a minimum contract, (just need a month's notice to quit), so you could get the line installed, give them the month's notice and move to BT directly for your ongoing line rental at the end of the month.
They charge £9.99/month line rental if you pay by dd.0
