Now I know the postie and he normally does it so I don't have to go to the post office to collect but I've never asked him to do so.
This time though hes caused me a lot of hassle. I've had problems with insurance and I got sent a letter telling me it was being cancelled.
I was away all of last week on holidays and saw this letter when I got home yesterday. Trouble is postie signed for it last Wednesday so it looks like I've been sitting on it since then and not bothered to sort it out.
Certainly weakens my case when I say I didn't know about it. In a way, I'm a bit annoyed because by postie signing it, its telling someone that its been received and read by me. All well and good saving me the hassle etc
Also, hes put my surname as the person signing for it but just put a squiggle.
Should I kick off about this?
Potentially, this insurance company being able to prove that I recieved a letter off them days ago could be costly for me.
But Im guessing postie could get into real trouble over it.

Or ask the postie to be a witness?
Be polite and catch them on the next visit, Explain that your grateful that he leaves your signed for mail so that you dont have to go and fetch it but one piece of mail he signed for has dropped you in it.
You dont want to drop them in it so could they possibly be a witness if required?
If you can prove you were on holiday and also mention that you can prove who signed for the letter. So it was unopened.
Im guessing the insurance do not even need to know he is your postman, Just someone collecting your post.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
If the issue of the postie signing for your mail got back to Royal Mail, they would most likely be dismissed0

Our postmen do this and it makes me furious. We tend to get different postmen each week
It negates the sender paying the extra postage if he is just going to sign it and post it anyway and IMO it isn't to save householders the hassle of going to the post office - it is to save him having to carry it back the mail centre
I reported them recently for this, when I had an item through the post that was worth several hundred pounds. He signed for it and left it on my doorstep all day whilst I was at work. I was amazed that it was there when i got home. He had actually forged my signatureWith love, POSR0 -
My postman signs for everything. The way I see it, since I know he does this and haven't told him not too, I've accepted the risk of something like this happening.
Perhaps you could ask him to write a letter for you to give to your insurers showing he signed for it. Hopefully they won't ask for his occupation. Your postman will obviously be nervous about all this, even writing a letter, and he will certainly never sign for your mail again so you'll have to collect it. But it's worth asking, since having insurance cancelled is not what anyone wants.
I would also be ringing the insurers first and asking what they would need to prevent the policy being cancelled, including offering to pay a higher premium, and whether they will accept a letter from your postman.
Hope it gets sorted out OP.0 -

Hi Im the postman and wish to put into writing reasons why I should be dismissed?0 -
Why is the Postie's helpful act a problem.
The OP at least was able to read the letter quicker than had he to either await redelivery or travel to collect his letter.
All a red herring - the letter could have been delayed in the post for 2/3 or more days!0 -

because the insurer has 'proof' the OP got the letter and didnt action it in the required timescales0
