What I mean is residential areas and outside schools for example.
The 42mph brigade need their license revoking, they kill pedestrian in 30 limits and they cause frustration and annoyance in 50/60/70 limits.

Thats a bit of a leap isnt it? Anyone who does 42mph in a 30 has killed pedestrians???

Also, maybe we need to educate pedestrians to stay off the road, thus lessening their chances of being hit by a car?

You "rarely" speed nowadays...? So you do sometimes..? And the problem is you may only do it accidentally once in a month, but typically that's when you get caught.

That and the fact nobody believes it to be anything more than a money making exercise.

People in many cases don't respect speeding laws for the most part because they are not predominantly there for road safety. It is reasonable to have, for example, a low limit close to schools when they are open but not perhaps at 11p.m. or in mid August.
On motorways there are some stretches where 80 would be reasonable in decent conditions. In France the limit is 82mph on motorways but it comes down when conditions are bad. That seems reasonable to me. What doesn't seem reasonable is 30mph (followed by 50mph and then back to 30mph) on a dual carriageway in completely clear conditions.
The limit maybe and often is 40mph on a 3 lane straight dual carriageway and 60mph on a country road with lots of sharp bends and a poor surface. That is plain stupid and a big reason why many have little respect for the law in this area.

Perhaps the moralisers here might like to use their time more productively and come up with some more sensible restrictions which more people will abide by and there will be limited, if any, sympathy for those who then break the limits. Part of respect for the law is to do with having fair, reasonable and sensible laws.

Be careful, the brainwashed "only speeding causes accidents" folk will come chasing you with torches and pitchforks.

We have a few 20mph speed limits locally. Now I have no problem with this, I can fully understand why. BUT the problem with 20mph speed limits is that as a motorist you spend more time looking at your speedo to make sure your under the limit than at the actual road.
I have cruise control on my car, but this only works from about 28mph. If I had a 20mph button on my car, like the F1 drivers have for the pit stops, I would be more than happy.
As it is, I believe that 20mph are more dangerous because a drivers concentration is taken off the road and onto their speedo

No problem keeping to any speed if you know how a gearbox controls engine speed.

Too many people have been taught to get into top gear asap so if you are in too high a gear the car will be driving the driver. The stupid "earth saving" gearchange gizmos don't help either.

We live in an extensive 20 zone. To maintain 20mph I need 2nd gear, but the stupid gizmo is telling me to get into 3rd, then if I select 3rd it is telling me I need 4th, at which point the car takes over driving.

I hate stealth cameras because they stop me driving to my ability and road conditions. Its a bit like riding a bike in a group and being told to keep the stabilisers on as the moron behind can't ride without them, so everyone has to keep them on if they need them or not.

Also if you're the sort of person who speeds occasionally but usually drives at 55 on a motorway then I'd argue you're more dangerous when speeding than someone who does 80+ on a motorway everyday as you're less used to how the car brakes, corners and reacts, your mind won't be trained to react at higher speeds.
