Santander have froze my account

Just to add I have been to the branch this morning and they couldn't give me any money. The manager was apologetic and suggested I contacted the ombudsman. All the proof is there this is genuine, my account has never had problems before and I honestly can't understand how they are able to do this. I was told the same thing again, just to wait for someone to contact me.0

Yes - but the OP has explained the source to the bankand has written correspondence about it from the HMRC to back it upHMRC surely must use a limited number of sort codes/accounts for their cheque runs - so its hardly rocket science?Instead of freezing their account entirely over a £7k cheque maybe the fraud team should be checking this out via HMRC first?Still I always find this money laundering lark amusing when we have overseas investors spending tens of millions buying up London property - does anyone ever check out the real sources of all those oligarchs funds?
As the saying goes - steal £100 you will get locked up steal billions and nothing will happen.0 -

I have to contact HRMC on Monday to send me a letter confirming this cheque is genuine and why they have sent it and what their reasons are for this rebate. To me this is not normal, I have spoke at length to Santander complaints team who appears to be very new and wasn't sure why this had happened. I'm happy for them to check authenticity of cheque but to freeze everything is ridiculous.0

Outrageous. Who do they think they are? You got a refund from the HMRC and it is none of Santander's effing business why.0 -

And blocking access to their entire account - why not say limit withdrawals to £50 a day until its cleared up?
Its like they are accusing the OP of being a crook before they have any evidence to support it.
Vote with your feet I would suggest!0 -
That's my feeling, they are suggesting ive done something untoward. Once this is cleared im closing my account down. I'm concerned that money due to go in next week won't, and direct debits won't be honoured.0
