Using Santander 123 Debit card Post Office

Hi, was wondering if anyone has used their 123 debit card to pay in or withdraw money at the Post Office lately? My husband tried to pay some money into his account at our local Post Office yesterday and they said as this account was once an Alliance and Leicester account they will not be able to complete any transactions on the account.
We are going to contact Santander but was just wondering if anyone else has had any problems? sound ridiculous to me. (We started with the Giro, then it was A & L and now its Santander) this is the first time ever he has had a problem.
Thanks

Hi, thanks for replying. I rung the Post Office complaints line and they didn`t know why! she said when she has checked it out and spoken to the local Post office she will ring me back...I`ll let you know what they say, if they actually ring back.
We have had our 123 accounts for ages and never had a problem until yesterday.0 -
Perhaps staff at the Post Office were wrong.
Old A&L accounts are Santander accounts that can be specifically used at the Post Office: http://www.postoffice.co.uk/banking-services#santander.
All Santander account holders will be able to access their accounts from Post Offices soon: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/59465274-a54f-11e4-bf11-00144feab7de.html#axzz3WztXtdZI.
Was the card rejected by the Post Office machine or did the staff take one look at it and said no?0 -
They said they don`t accept the 123 debit cards as the 123 are old Alliance and Leicester accounts! its very odd as we have used that post office for years. I`m sure it will get sorted, am just thinking someone was having an `off day`.0

That is 100% wrong. The 123 account which you have to apply for (rather than get put into) is only a few years old whilst the transfer of old A&L took places ages ago.0 -
I know they are talking a load of rubbish. It was a small post office at the back of our Spar then they decided to make the post office counter an extension of the Spar shop and most of the staff do both jobs, so someone there has made a mistake.
Will be interesting to see if the Post Office complaints rings me back.0 -

4567, old A&L account with an 09-01-33 sort code withdraw cash no problems although never tried paying in.
