£8078.79 - spends so far this year.
Plodding on - 2 weeks until the end of the academic year.
Haven't managed to secure a full time job from September so I'm back to working 2 days per week teaching.
Additionally I've got the rental income and a little part time retail role.
    Good job I'm flexibly frugal.

"Flexibly frugal" - I like it 😀! Sounds like a trial phase of semi-retirement to me 👍

South_coast lack of available employment really - but I like your optimism!
Debating joining the local WI as would really like to meet new people. Although volunteering at the local foodbank is also appealing - will have a think before September comes.

£9063.04 spends so far this year.

Keeping plodding. Have decided to try and follow a long held dream and start a business I have approached a lender just waiting now.

Not convinced I'll be able to finance plan a but I've actually got a plan b - but that will take some time as it relies on a long term tenant leaving so I can use the house.

Been busy in the hols mostly with extended family and that comes with its own challenges but have been to see one of my old uni friends which was lovely and my sister and the kids have had a couple in playmates.

As expected couldn't finance the business  - a freehold day nursery came up for sale £400,000. Despite having the equity in my home I don't have the income to pull it out.

I was thinking about turning the btl I bought last year into a nursery as the council were potentially on board with this and I could restructure my outstanding mortgages so that the property was unencumbered so not worrying about mortgage tcs and if it fell through at the planning stage I could relet it so nothing ventured nothing gained.

However, the council came back to me today with a single unit thats for sale (its not currently a nursery) but planning would be fine so I'm exploring the option yo purchase and setting up my own from that.

Really trying to be more sociable. Im painfully shy at times with new people (not professionally but personally) plus I never think mines good enough doesn't matter what it is. My close friends 3 I've known since school/uni so always have them. Plus I live near family. So I'm never alone.

Doesn't help that I've always lived in lower end properties in expensive areas. However, as I've got older I've realised I also get it from my mother when we lived surrounded b professionals as children in their big houses when we were the only ones at the local comp! She was never friendly with the neighbours and its clearly a self esteem thing.

How I've ended up with two extremely confident outgoing kids is beyond me. Although my eldest does social avoidance things similar to  me and she's not confident either. Its funny when you have kids how it can highlight all your flaws.

Anyway was invited to two play dates this week and after pushing myself to go think I've met two new friends.
After  my playdate i had an mse moment I've spent £120  on an immaculate bedroom set from marketplace I love it. Also purchased a new bed for one of the girls off ebay - its not great but it'll do.

    Keeping spends low.

Going to see the unit tomorrow.

  • Sounds like an exciting prospect  to own and run your own nursery. Hope the unit looks suitable for you to do that.

  • I've decided to start a daily diary between now and October half term (I'm going on holiday to a lovely Greek Island and want to ideally lose two stone before then.) Also this is the most expensive holiday I've ever been on so want to enjoy it. (I'm not paying for the holiday - but I will be paying for the testing/car park/ new clothes and other bits which I don't have in my budget so need to keep accountable.)

    Day 1

Diet wasn't too bad but have been to Flamborough Head went for a walk around the nature reserve and then spent the afternoon on the beach at Thornwick Bay (not been since I was a child - so was nice to take my own children.) Managed about 15,000 steps. Avoided cafe lunches and fish and chips.
Had tea at home - but did succumb to ice creams at the beach. Snacked on carrots, cucumber and raspberries so that was better than normal.
Read a whole novel (was a short Harlen Coben one 'Found') that was good too as I'm trying to read regularly.
My offer for the unit was rejected and apparently there's another bid on it (not sure if I believe this as it's been up for a while and all of a sudden I come along and there's now two of us in a bidding war. Trying not to be cynical - but won't be increasing - something will crop up it normally does. )
Can't bear to get rid of my sofas as there's nothing wrong with them so I've spent £63 on 10 cushions and two throws and now I love them again!

    Day 2

    Kept on the diet bandwagon.
Started the day with 300g raspberries and porridge.
Lunch was egg and toast and 400g carrots.
Tea was a protein bar (awful that'll serve me right for trying meal replacement) two carrots as snacks.

I've always eaten loads of carrots i find fruit too sweet and they're so cheap.

Been to a local hall and gardens today only managed 8000steps walking round. Took dd3 swimming this afternoon.
