How can Credit History be obtained?

The estate agent will normally have subscription to CRAs . Ask them to shown you this tenants credit file (e.g containing the credit histories) NOT the credit score ...

Just to mind you, some EAs will not want to share this info

EA wont have access to this data despite what they like you to believe
They will only be able to see public data such as CCJ's and Insolvency.

A "Score" of 8 is probally what the tenant verify service they have used will give so its all based on their services scoring matrix.

Of course it has got to be limited to publicly available records which is relevant to decision making, which include court judgments and insolvency records. Providing personal information of someone not relevant to decision making is against DPA.

But is not that this is the most important information about people attitudes and behaviors in the past.

    it is explained here

I have also posted on Rental Forum.
As we found within minutes that Tenant had an Asbo, was previously member of a gang and also had CCJ's, we asked agent for search results.
All we found was that he and his girlfriend had only temporary work and report said he had no CCJ's.
Had we known his work was temporary and he had CCJ'S we would not have accepted the Tenant.
No Bank Reference or Character Reference.
These were stated in Agents Terms.

Sounds like the agent was trying to hide their wrong doing y telling you the score only, they know the score needs nothing, they were hoping you wouldn't find that out too.
