  • You're doing a super job so far! All those small payments will add up!

    Id suggest you use a chunk of saved cash to pay off the credit cards if they are close to accruing interest. No point having savings if you're also paying interest.

    I use a sealed tin to save without really thinking about it, its become a bit habitual for me. Basically I put any £1, £2 or 50 pences into a sealed tin. (You can buy them for <£1) and when either six months or a year is up I open it and count the monies.

    My first one enabled me to save £202 without missing the small amounts I put in. Most of mine came from change from grocery shopping.

    In terms of the fuel, perhaps have a little competition between the two of you, who can achieve the highest MPG over a weekly period? As a chunk of money is going in fuel. Just a thought.
    Sealed Pot Challenge:
    2014 = £202
    2015 = £382

    Thank you for your encouragement!

    I have a copper jar and a £1 jar for Xmas presents and have £86 so far since beginning of this year.

    We are currently sharing cars to try and cut down on our petrol usage and OH has taken on a pt job to get these debts down faster - I will be looking for a takeaway delivery job or something like that on the nights as OH works nights anyway.

  • So signature updated and credit card one has gone altogether! Since 8th April 2015 we have paid 7.02% off our debt which I know doesn't sound much but it's a start :-)

    We are on track to our DFD but I am going to look at this over the weekend and try to shave a few months off it.

    Thank you for all your advice so far - I will keep this momentum going.

  • Little update mainly to keep me sane and on the right track.

    For the month of may we managed to pay off £657.32 and is finally under 10k - whoooooooop :beer:

    Some overtime in June which should hopefully come in June's wage and selling things on eBay as well as doing the odd car boot sale.

    Fingers crossed we will be debt free before November 2016.

    Thank you for all your encouraging and motivating comments.

    Much love

    :money:Well done! Under 10k is a HUGE milestone!
    Congratulations:j

    Did you figure out how to keep your petrol bills a bit lower?
    Have you been on the 'sneaky tips' on the Old Style board? I'm remembering loads of tips that I forgot when my partner and I earned a little more and learning a whole load more. :cool:

    In a similar vein, have you checked whether either of you can get a costco membership or find a similar warehouse style place (We go to a place called JTF). You can get toilet rolls, toothbrushes, tins/sauces/sweets/wine, gardening stuff, tools, craft stuff etc etc SUPER cheap. We buy months and months at a time it means significantly reduced trips because we have ran out of something and means that we are buying stuff and using it like a year later, at the price it was a year ago!:money:

    I see you've killed off a WHOLE credit card! That's great!

    So happy for you!:T

    Thank you so much purplesky for your comments.

    RE the petrol - we managed to knock £40 off but that was it really however OH is looking for jobs closer to home as we speak and has been for a a month or so now so fingers crossed lol

    Will have a look at the old style board during the week and see what's what :)

    Just redeemed £10 on swagbucks so fingers crossed another credit card will be killed off this month - then only one to go and a loan - I say only very loosely but compared with 3 in April it's getting there.

    For the petrol, do you do much shopping at tescos, because using the clubcard gets you money off the petrol, so if you're shopping there anyway, it might make sense to capitalise on that, maybe alternate which car gets taken and always fill up there, even if it's only £15 or £20. At least that bit of petrol is cheaper than the rest?

    Could one or both of you get a second job, just for a little while. I had a friend who did this, and because she chose a theatre, she's saving a fair bit on entertainment, because she can apply for free tickets?! And it's only one or two nights a month for her, so although not easy, it's not a ridiculous amount of time either? Or you could try and get jobs at your local supermarket, for the discount?

    Hows it all going?
