Boy racers often give me a laugh trying to race me. They see a women in her mid thirties and think I'm going to tootle along, they often have a shock when I floor my M135i and they are soon a dot in my rear view!!
The main complaint of boy racers is they speed about allot wanting to race anything that poses a challenge. All you've admitted there is your prepared to race them to prove a point, where as those who are responsible enthusiasts just let them go on their merry fart tin way without entertaining the thought of trying to leave them for dust to prove your car is more powerful than their 1.1 hack jobs.

Also be warned that these type of boy racers looking for challenges are not only out to get you to race (and you admit you have no issue with), but have been known to "fake race" while you speed off and them knowing theres a mobile camera up ahead just to get the pleasure of knowing youll receive a NIP.

Congrats by the way, us enthusiasts, don't even give them the thought of day and let them get the impression their fart tins have mahoosive power by leaving us in their mirror, you on the other hand put yourself in the same category as them well done!:T

Talking about them trying to race people...

When we had our old rotbox Merc A-Class, we had a group in a modded Golf pull up to us at some lights, making gestures trying to race us. Totally ignored them. Golf was revving etc. We set off as usual. Golf driver totally failed at dropping the clutch and ended up stalling it, so we breezed away as normal with our mighty 82 BHP. They very shyly pulled in a few cars behind us. Bet he'll never live it down!

If they bought a decent car in the first place, it would need modifying.

When car enthusiasts buy cars that are good to begin with they often still modify them.

I disagree with the conflation of 'enthusiast' with 'modifier'.

I am an enthusiast, but see no value and have no desire to modify the cars I purchase beyond standard specification these days.

If I want a bigger/faster/shinier/louder/smaller/better handling/different car, I just buy one that meets my desire, rather than !!!!ing around with the one I already have.

Indeed, this proves that boy racers are just trying to emulate something they can't afford, the nicer cars modified by the true enthusiasts.

depends on what you want to gain really.

Mods to me is either mechanical or cosmetic or upgrades.

If I bought a classic bog standard that had known issues with it from factory, say a lotus ellan sprint, then I would modify the donut rings to a complete arm taking away the donut ring altogether for E.G. or modding the ignition for better more reliable start and spark to make it more efficient to run with perhaps a better spec carb and intake, most classics don't have exhausts available, so stainless are made to the same shape and size except perhaps you think the tip should not poke out 6 inches from the rear but be more flush the rear valance.

Its been known the classic VW super beetle circles that you could lower the car without buying anything expensive or special but use classic VW scirrocco shock and modify them with you old stock ones with a few other mods that use stock parts from a normal classic beetle (because the super beetles nose pokes up in the air owners rather the nose down look common now that LHD usa imports are making their way here if you want a decent restorable car), some like the chrome eyelids on the lights some like chrome mesh sieve covers. some like roof racks other don't. its all about personal preference, that mods go on in all circles of car enthusiast worlds.

So all your knowledge comes from the tv then?

I don't race anybody, never said I did. I don't wish to have a boy racer on my bumper so floor it to get away. If you know anything about cars you'll now my car BMW M135i) can reach 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and the roads I often travel on are national speed limit roads so certainly no crime being committed. I do see them as a dot in my rear view as the try to keep up. When they eventuality catch up they can overtake and break the speed limit if they want.

What's the difference between a boy racer, a modifier and a car enthusiast?

    Or what's worse.

Someone who's in their 40's with an M3, who drives it fast everywhere with an aftermarket loud exhaust and loves cars.

Or someone who's in their late teens, with a Saxo VTS who drives it fast everywhere with an aftermarket exhaust and loves cars.
