How long SHOULD Scottish police keep records of speeding on file?
Hi,
Quick question.
Just had my CRB back (all fine) for some work I do with children. to my surprise in the any other information box (at the Cheif Constables discretion) it mentions a speeding fine I had in 2005.
I thought that all convictions were wiped from DVLA 4 years after being spent?
Anyone able to enlighten me?
Thanks
Jon

It's not DVLA they're looking at, it's police records.
Not sure, but is there 2 levels of CRB? A basic one, and one if you're working with vunerable people? (in your case, children, OH works in care and had an enhanced CRB done).
I done some basic check on myself a few years ago and nothing showed up, but a freedom of information request to the chief constable showed my motoring offences from 1992.0 -
I would hope the police keep information on convictions for ever more.0

I thought it was only offences that you had been charged , fingerprinted and photographed that stayed on , sad now because I upset a few traffic cars in my youth0

Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act it actually takes 5 years to become spent. The endorsement can be removed earlier, which is why the DVLA don't keep records beyond 4 years. But a CRB check is designed to be used for jobs which are exempt from the ROA so they're supposed to show both spent and unspent convictions. A record can be kept forevermore, but an ancient speeding ticket is unlikely to cause you any problems getting a job - it hardly marks you out as a kiddie fiddler, which is what your employers are mostly interested in.0

or even a fast fiddy fiddler
however you never hear of !!!!!phile's driving past schools fast
so a speeding offence proves you are not a !!!!!phile
QED , you have got the job

Odd isn't it!
What surpises me is that they don't mention a speeding ticket I recieved in England in 2006. So is there a differnce between the two systems?0 -
you say Cheif Constables discretion , was your Scottish offence in the same county as the chief constables check ,0

I have had two enhanced CRB/DBS checks done since appearing in court for a motoring offence. Neither have shown up on the check.0

I have had two enhanced CRB/DBS checks done in the last three years. neither mentioned the speeding fine I picked up in 2000, nor driving through a red light in 1985.0
