even the smallest intel "g" desktop computer has a reading of about 2500 and a fully blown i7 will exceed 10000 , 2500 is marginal , and there will be doubt's as to streaming or fast internet etc
Yes but look at the performance per watt as that is what counts with a laptop, especially when running from battery.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
ok I agree , however in the majority of cases especially watching a DVD the laptop is static , and probably plugged in.
laptops are different beasts to desktops , and should be treat as lightweight machines , to do basic tasks , especially at this price range0 -
I'm baffled as to what to go for now!0

So, do you think it is possible to get the following for my £400 max. budget?
2500+ rated CPU
8gb RAM
1 TD Storage
Sorry to ask so many questions!0 -
How about this http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-z50-15-6-laptop-black-10108701-pdt.html
The good thing about that one is it has a full hd screen.
Although I wouldn't personally recommend currys for a laptop.0 -
That one looks good. Is AMD as good as Intel?0

Generally they are behind intel, however this is a perfectly decent processor for your sons needs. Benchmark is over 3000. It will be up there with i3 processors but inferior to i5's, though i5's will of course be more expensive.0 -
I have one of these http://www.johnlewis.com/hp-15-laptop-intel-core-i3-8gb-ram-1tb-15-6-/p1855442 and my family have bought 2 more. They are brilliant and reduced at the moment.0
