Most significant on-shore oil find in the UK for 30 years

Perhaps. The price of oil paid by consumers is almost entirely made up of tax. If more taxes are paid at the well head, less is paid at the level of the consumer.
I think we all know that to be untrue.
We wont see a single penny in benefit, it will vanish straight in to the back pockets of the pigs trough brigade.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

I think you are a very bitter person.
The price of oil in the UK is almost entirely made up of tax. For example:

People are too skeptical of good news
it shouldn't be a shock that there is or could be big oil fields onshore in England. There isn't a magic line a mile down the earth which nicely corresponds to the shore line.
The big positive of it being on shore is that the extraction costs could be a lot lower which could make it economic to extract a greater portion of the oil0 -

I'm no engineer but I would imagine that getting oil out of Surrey:
is a whole magnitude of easy greater than getting oil out of the North Sea:

Actually, we should take Alex and Nicola's advice, and use the revenue from this new find to create a new "English" sovereign wealth fund.
How could the SNP object? This is what they would propose if a discovery were made in the Scottish highlands!
Or even better, they could use the find to provide Scotland with the sort of oil fund that was denied to it first time round.
Then, any leftovers can go to the English economy.0 -

Are you now proposing were not better together?
Keep the oil find, break up the union now if you want.

Fair enough. But no doubt the English will take the annual subsidy that Scotland receives into account when performing that calculation.
You'd have to do the math of course, but I'm not that convinced that the result would be in Scotland's favour.:)0
