Parcel doesn't appear to be delivered after 7 days?

Hi all,
I posted off a package to my buyer on the 31st and he's been emailing me quite a bit saying he hasn't received it yet. I've been checking it online and i just keep getting the standard message saying the proof of delivery doesn't come up till a while after the item has been delivered and so on.
The guy just emailed me there saying if i could just send him a refund because something has obviously gone wrong and i should just claim from royal mail. I was just wondering what you all think i should do because i don't wanna get negative feedback by delaying him as he seems to be getting agitated because he's been waiting but i don't wanna give him the refund and then the package turns up a few days later (not saying he's dishonest but you know what some people on eBay are like). Also, i thought it was the other way round as the buyer purchases with the knowledge that the seller accepts no liability after posting the item and giving a refund due to a lost item is me doing him a favour?
Thanks

Basically, there's a postal strike on now. It's not your fault. Do not refund him.0

dont refund him yet. i was waiting for something for at least a week and it got sent back to the seller which he had to resend it. There is a strike on atm so there is a long backlog which the buyer shoud understand0

I reckon only about 20% of my mail posted 31st and 1st has got through yet, - in these cases where they are well behind, the letters get caught up as the postie can deliver a lot of these, the ones that will need sorting by hand, and will not fit through the box get kept to one side until they ahve extra staff, also when they are far behind they grab the first sacks, which tends to be the later mail, the mail at the bottom of the pile does not get reached.
One delivery office I called said they had that many parcels still to be sorted they had no idea what was there, and that as soon as tehy had extra staff they would try to start delivering some,0 -
How exactly was it sent, I'm assuming since you say you can track it online that it must be recorded or special?
If it was recorded then it is standard post and will be delayed along with all the mail and a week even without a strike would not be suspicious at all depending on where he is. Special would be a little more worrying, although it is no longer guaranteed next day due to the strikes it does seem that special items are still arriving in 3-4 days, which would make this one late. However, the status of special delivery should show clearly online, whereas recorded only updates when delivered or where a delivery attempt is made.
I've just had my first complaint as well, maybe it is the tone of the email but it seems a bit shirty. Buyer complaining item was paid for nearly 2 weeks ago and where is it? Item was actually only bought and paid for on the 30th and sent same day 2nd class *and* I emailed to explain that strikes might delay it. I have asked my buyer to wait until the weekend and then let me know if it still hasn't arrived, personally I think it is too early to refund quite yet.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Saying you are not responsible for items after they have been posted is totally wrong. You are responsible for the item until it arrives with the buyer.
The buyer cannot claim for a lost item from royal mail as they have no contract with them. The seller has to claim.
If the buyer paid via paypal you may end up refunding him sooner rather than later as he can do a charge back.0 -
Ask them to wait a little longer I had one item take 2 weeks to reach a buyer and am waiting for 1 more that was posted 7 days ago to arrive with buyer. Some are getting through quickly still but not all.0

I have had a couple of "where is my item" messages too!
I have only had 1 feedback since 30 July,I am assuming the rest haven't arrived yet!
My items are all low value so get sent ordinary first class ,I might use recorded at the moment just so I can check if the buyer really hasn't got item before any refunds!!!
I have now put on all my auctions that although items will be posted promptly, the strikes are likely to cause delays. This is also in my dispatched email.:j I love bargains:jI love MSE0 -
I sent something recorded on the 31st and it hasn't arrived yet. Luckily the recipient runs his business on ebay so is very understanding
I bought some shoes and they arrived after a couple of days. Royal Mail is a little all over the place at the moment me thinks

I am advising customers that anything sent 1st class may well take up to 15 working days due to the huge backlog of mail.
I've only had one shirty email as yet, but I replied to it politely and have had a thank you email back.
I'm about to email some website customers to see if they have the goods that I sent out last wednesday."There is a light that never goes out"0
