Experience of Pat Lavery Cars in Peterlee, Durham?

Does anyone have experience of either using or buying from Pat Lavery cars? I can only find one single review from a customer but it has no date so it could be ages ago. They are on eBay but with a rating of zero (despite being a member since 2011).

I'm on the verge of buying a car from there. But of course the worry of buying from a used car dealer unknown to me does make me hesitant.

On the car side (i.e. mechanically) I'm confident of knowing what to look for (e.g. clutch/gearbox issues, unusual knocks, noises or smells). Any of that and I would walk away.

I went and looked at a few cars there with a friend of mine about 9 months back when he was looking for a 2-3K motor. Nothing on the lot was very well presented. Loads of flat tyres and flat batteries. Many of the cars had only one key. 'Full' service histories turned out to be very much partial (one car had 40-odd thousand miles and about two years between provable services). Loads of mismatched brands and age of tyres on the cars. Dirty mats unprotected by paper valet-mats. Most of the stock was somewhat overpriced by comparison with other cars available.

Wouldn't be my first choice, to be honest. The stock smacked very much of cheapest auction cars priced for retail sale. Can't comment on anything higher up the price range, but the overall 'experience' was enough to make us walk.

The cars do seem clean and tidy on eBay and the one I'm looking at seems tidy all round.

I'm more concerned with the dealer having a good/bad reputation... Guess we're off to a below-average start.

Can't comment on their 'reputation' overall, as I am only one voice. What I will say is that the cars we went to look at were not anywhere near as good in the flesh as they looked in the (typically low-end car dealer not-very-good) photos.

What vehicle are you looking for?

I'm looking for a quick and small 4/5 door diesel for around £2500.

Right. I was more thinking, which of the specific cars up for sale are you looking at. The 207, Golf, Corsa? They're the only ones that look to fit your requirements.

    Yes, it does.

It tells the story that you dont know how Ebay Classified car ads work, as you cant leave feedback for them, hence why he has 0 feedback.

Oh, and BTW - guess you didn't look too hard for reviews then.

Result number 5 is the one you want. 7 reviews there as well.

Yeah I only had a chance before I started work and during my lunch break.

Only just got home now and phoned a friend who works in the trade. Reckons they most likely get their cars from auctions and said its 50/50.

Done a history check courtesy of work, came out clear 100%. Car has been in for a test on 3rd March but failed. When I called they said it would have its test done tomorrow.

I'll go have a look but its not looking positive.
