My dad had a basic payg last year. Somebody called from orange and said why dosent he go onto a contract. He got sent a new sim, new number and a letter etc.
He didnt want it and threw it away. Then he gets a bill from the company saying he owes money. He does not, he never activated the new number, never askec for someone to call.
surely they can see that number is not being used. He phoned customer service and told them but is really annoyed and worried as they have threatened to contact the credit reference agency if he dosent pay.
This is extremely heavy handed. He just wants to stick with his payg. He never uses text just the phone and he dosent want tobe tied into a contract.

Letter ??? this reads as he has agreed to a contract over the phone .0

It reads as Orange opted him in, as they called and asked for a reason why he did not want to have a contract.
Why would anyone have to give a reason to someone calling them?0 -
He didnt ask for a new number ir a sim card and he did not go online to set up a new account, he hasnt even got a computer.
if orange were to look they would see the account has never been activated.:footie:0 -
When he received the sim and the letter it would have notified him of his right to cancel. Did he do anything about this, or did that go in the bin too?
Was it definitely Orange that rang and not a third party?0 -

There'd be no obligation to cancel anything not agreed to.
OP's father would need to prove that they did not agree to it. The information given to date (telephone conversation, sim received, no contact made to state sim was unsolicited) would suggest that they did.
If you received a contract for something that was unexpected, would you not query it?0 -
I had a call like this and told them I wasn't interested after hearing the info and later had a text to say 'thanks for the time to talk with you' and was given an email address in case I change my mind.
I was told that it would be the same number as before.0 -
This happened to my daughter. Someone phoned, then she was sent a new sim which she threw away. After recieving a bill she phoned them saying she didn't agree to anything and didn't want a contract. They argued but in the end it cost over £30 to cancel. What a con  I've told her that if EE or Orange cold call her again to say nothing and hang up! I know it's rude but they are scamming PAYG customers IMO.0
