Will I ever learn to say no?

  • Today I have had a massive clear out of my wardrobe, can't believe how much I crammed in there. The good news is I found some holiday clothes, so I am nearly done :j just need to sort the kids out now but I am at least half way there.

So I'm still going strong with the old eb@y listing, even though the internet decided to stop working for a few hours  I still managed to get most of it done.

Still haven't got round to cancelling those direct debits, must do it tomorrow. I'm also back to work, so will be in zombie mode by the evening.

  • I have to admit, I am getting fed up of walking to the post office. I've got some more stuff finishing on Monday and a few items have bids, so I will be going again next week.

Today I had someone come round as I had agreed to take part in a survey and the best part is I got paid £40 to answer his questions, it only took 45 minutes. Beats the surveys I do online for 15p . This money will be used to pay my hairdresser, I desperately need my hair doing as I haven't had it cut since the end of Dec.

I finally got round to cancelling those DD, not sure if I should ring the company up and let them know, will try tomorrow.

Not much else to report money saving wise. Will check the bank account and do my weekly skim tomorrow.

  • Wow didn't realise it had been a week since I last posted. So money saving things I have done this week are;

Sold more stuff on eB@y, which meant 3 trips to the post office but I have used this money to buy some holiday bits.

I have opened a 1,2,3 santander account to get cash back on my utility bills and mortgage. This is the first time I have an account where I need to swap my money around, I couldn't do the 7 day switch as I have an overdraft and can't paying it off in full.......yet, but it's on my list to tackle.

Dh actually has this bank holiday weekend off, so we are visiting friends and family, which I am really looking forward to. It's only 3 weeks till our holiday, so I better get a move on with my lists and get the suitcases down from the loft.

I'm still spending more than I should on food shopping, I have no idea why I have this mental block about doing a meal plan and how much should I be spending for a family of 5/6 (sons gf and my mum often have dinner/lunch)? I'm guessing I spend about £600 but that does include everything, pack lunches, cleaning products, birthday cards.

I've also had 4 birthdays this month, which I have given money as presents. We have a big family and we have set amounts that we give, October is my worse month with 10 birthdays .

Hope you all enjoy the weekend, fingers crossed we see some Sun.

  • More things have been sold on eB@y which brings my total to just over £400 :j I never would of thought I could make that much, unfortunately I have been spending it when things get tight just before payday or for holiday bits but I'm just glad it was there to use.

I had a really lovely time seeing family and friends last weekend, quiet a bit of alcohol was consumed but a good time was had by all.

I've also been trying to change some direct debits over to the new santander account but as its just in dh name and he's been at work, I've not managed to yet. I'm really looking forward to payday next week as there is a chance dh will be getting a bonus, which would be great for our holiday spending money.

I've been ironing some of the clothes today as the suitcases have been brought down from the loft, I'm getting really excited now and can't wait to go but I'm also looking forward to coming back and working out my real debt total so we can start seriously tackling it.

I know dh is desperate for a new car ( new to us) but the sensible side of me has kicked in, we need to make a good dent in our debts before we even consider one. We've had our car for 5 years and for 4 of them our heater hasn't worked and it can't be fixed easily, plus we no longer need a 7 seater now ds1 is driving. But we have terrible luck when buying cars, so while this one is working we can stick with it a little longer I think.

Tomorrow I'm busy with my second job, looking forward to catching up with my friend who is also my business partner. I'm determined to make this work, we ran at a small loss last year, so really hoping things go a bit better this year. We have lots of ideas on paper it's just trying to put them into practice that's the hard part.

  • I've subscribed to your thread chocoholicqueen! I also struggle to say no all the time so that aspect rings true with me plus I impulsively booked a holiday that still needs to be paid....urgh!

Good luck on your debt free journey!
  • Hi Disorganised, thanks for popping by.

I've got 9 days till we go and I'm still trying to sort out everyone's clothes, I'm feeling a bit like this  at the moment. The good news is dh did get paid his bonus, so that is our spending money sorted, although as we are all inclusive I'm hoping we will be bringing some of it back.

Dh is really fed up with his job, there is massive change happening where he works and everyone is being moved around and he is really not happy. This is another reason why this debt needs to be paid asap, so if it gets that bad he can look for another job but I'm not sure he would get one with the same pay and we could never afford over payments on less money.

Ds2 is in the middle of his gcse's and I'm currently trying to talk him into Saturday school revision, he's coming round to the idea but let's see what happens when I wake him up tomorrow .

Lots of bills paid this week, I love getting out my book and writing how much has been paid off, I know I'm sad lol. Looking forward to next month's payday so I can start making bigger over payments again.

  • How did DS2 get on? I'm studying myself at the moment and finding the motivation to study really hard! I've got three weeks to cram as much info in as possible - does he have any tried and tested tips. Ha!

I need to start this properly again, got an email from one of my cards offering 0% so made me take the foot off the gas... That and stressing about exams doesn't bode well = lots of eating out and mass disorganisation!

Still got about 5 weeks till holiday so that's not quite on the radar yet. Seem to lurch from one thing to another... Need to find a happy medium.

Hope you have a great time!
  • Hi Disorganised, ds2 refused to get out of bed and go  I've learnt over the years that if I make him do something that he really doesn't want to do it doesn't end well, for example; I could of dragged him out of bed and made him go but he wouldn't of got anything out of being in class because he didn't want to be there and he didn't have to be. Ds2 is a really good boy and he has continued to study at home before each exam, some he thinks have gone great, others not so.

I hope you do well in yours, it's so hard to know exactly how it went until you get the result.

So tomorrow is when we fly, my anxiety levels are going through the roof, why do I do this to myself when I find it so hard to travel . I know I will love it when we are there and I am really looking forward to it.

Everything has been brought and ironed, just the last minute things to go in the suitcase, desperately trying to stick to the rules this time as we had to throw so much away before as I had packed it in hand luggage.

Hope you all have a lovely bank holiday weekend, best go and set the alarm for 1:30 am .
