Just had a horrid surprise. The other week I was called by whom i believed was Orange/EE to arrange the upgrade of my phone as my phone was due for its upgrade i thought oh thats good how proactive of them. They asked me various security questions about my account such as my address, my security word and such. Talked with the nice man aggreed to get a new phone on a cheaper tariff he talked me out of getting the insurance as it wasn't worth it, this should have tipped me off. Agreed to things was then told that when the phone came through i would have to phone up to arrange a DD i told him i allready had one but he stated oh with it changing from Orange to our EE network it needs to be set up again. This sounded legit.
So all ok was told the phone would be out on the 7th (today). And got a TXT confirming this with his name on and such. Ill be honest i didn't really pay much attention to it at the time.
So gets to 3pm im a bit concerned that there is no phone as yet and ive had no notice of a tracking number or anything so i call Orange/EE. They tell me must have been a third party as they have no record of this upgrade. I explained that the company said that they were Orange/EE and that i have always upgraded via orange direct and wouldn't go via a 3rd party and could they please provide me with the details of who this 3rd party is who has clearly placed the order with them. After being on hold for some time and recalling that i gave them security details and getting more worried about other things they may have done to the account with the password the customer service guy got back said they didnt have the details of the 3rd party at all. They could however cancel the line change and he informed me that this new account woudnt go live if that didnt happen. So yay for them.
Now my biggest concern is this new phone that could be winging its way to me. If it turns up ill be refusing it and getting it sent back. But i have no idea who this third party was. The details on the text were the following just with the general info in
Order placed with Mike Powell then it give the order reffereance and then UMM Customer Services 01873 359102.
Now i have tried to contact this number but its goes straight to hold music.
As you can imagine I am very angry about this and want to get to the bottom of it. If anyone know who this company are and can provide another contact number i would be most greatful.
Thanks

Same has happened to me. Delivery expected, nothing shows up. Call the number provided on the confirmation text only to get recorded music. I then call EE/Orange to see if they have record of it as the company claimed to be working on their behalf. They claim no knowledge as I'm not actually edible for an upgrade yet.
Can't put me in contact with their fraud people to see if there is any potential fraud as they claim there is nothing. Disinterested in the fact that customers are being contacted by an organisation claiming to be calling on their behalf.
Then I found this forum - Lovely MSE forums! It is indeed Upgrade My Mobile and they couldn't care less. I called the number provided on the website and got straight through. They knew I had been contacted but said nothing was registered on the system. Couldn't then explain why I had been sent a reference number and refused to cancel my request as they had nothing on system. Claimed he couldn't possible know who I spoke with (despite my providing the name from the confirmation text), as they had 'literally millions' of representatives. Didn't see it as a problem that the contact number they provide is going straight to recorded music and didn't care that there were forums online listing this as a scam.
As per the forum suggestion I've contacted Action Fraud, their systems are down so I have to call back and they'll raise a report as apparently there is some sort of related scam - I'll update later when I have more details and have logged my report. In the meantime, they say watch your credit report!0 -
So did you receive a phone off upgrade my mobile in the end ?? I think I've just been done by them today . Are they definitely acting in behalf of ee ?0
