In which case: loin steak, chops or medallions. (Sorry, I don't know the exact difference between them).

thanks, is it regular local butchers to have cheaper meat but as good as supermarkets? or maybe other companies can provide cheaper meat, but good quality?

Meat prices vary a lot. You can find a good deal in one place for a few weeks, and then it goes, and you have to find somewhere else.

Aldi & Lidl have a good reputation for raw meat and meat deli products. I would start there, with some basic items and/or special offers, and use that as a base price to compare other shops with.

The British industry is different to the rest of Europe in that we traditionally don't eat/don't like every part of the animal, and so (a) some products may simply not be available, and (b) if you like offal (liver, heart, etc.) then it can be a very cheap option.

doesn't "joint" mean it has bone? as joint, I imagine it's knee or shoulder or something like that

    so, it won't be boneless

also, I searched for pork joints and I saw that they almost always sell it as a 1kg package and I need smaller quantities, like 1-2 portions for 1-2 people

also, I saw them being sold as a huge piece of meat, which is not convenient as I have to cut it myself

I am looking for cheapest meat that's already cut in slices or something and without bone (or minimal bone) so that I can throw it in the grill

You are right that joint does mean something like a shoulder but we often call a large piece of meat a joint (even when it's not). So that's why they are mostly large, family-size pieces.

With beef particularly, it's easy to cut it up into smaller joints (;)) if you have a freezer to store it in.

Sometimes (as in boneless pork shoulder) the bone has been taken out by the butcher before sale.

You'll only know if a local butcher is cheaper than a supermarket by checking the prices. Some local butchers can be good value but (as in my area) some are really expensive as they cater for the high end spenders who like to be seen patronising a local store. Generally Aldi and Lidl are best value.

What sort of meals do you like to cook as that will help us know which meat to advise?

Pigs liver (you can't get more protein for the least money) in Tesco is £1.50 kg. Misshaped bacon in Heron (and Tesco) about £2 kg. Occasionally beef mince in Lidl £1per 500g.

Just checked pigs liver now £2.25p kg.

For ease, most joints in supermarkets have been boned and rolled. Joint, just means not cut into individual portions.

Is it that difficult to slice a piece a meat into individual portions that it would put you off buying? If you want smaller joints, then go to a butchers and buy just what you need. They also slice it for free too

If you want presliced, single portions of pork that you can grill, then you need to be looking for chops

In my country you can find pancetta, ie pork belly thick slices like small steaks, with 3.5 euro per kg, no bones.

Is there anything like this in uk? What's the cheapest meat available here, as I find everything above 5pounds per kg in supermarkets!

If you are close to a Lidl and are in the correct Lidl area , then pork belly slices reduced for weekend of 2/3 May

There are plenty of less fashionable meats around.

Aldi have Turkey Mince 450g for £1.79 (£4/kg). It's only 7% fat, too.

However, Turkey meat is dark pink, and the mince is the same, which I think puts some people off.

Once cooked, it looks and tastes the same (as beef or pork mince) to me.

Also 12% fat Pork Mince currently on offer at £1.89 for 500g (£3.78/kg).

Laziness and convenience costs a lot more! Buy bigger cuts of meat and portion it yourself if you want to cut costs. And no, not all joints contain bones. Aldi is one of the cheaper places for good quality meat. Or try a butchers/meat market depending where you live.

    ok you convinced me

so I take the 1kg pork joint without bones

and I cut it in parts

and I freeze it (how long can I have it freezed?)

can I grill it in the toaster? I don't have an over at home, only microwave and this:
