In my country you can find pancetta, ie pork belly thick slices like small steaks, with 3.5 euro per kg, no bones.

Is there anything like this in uk? What's the cheapest meat available here, as I find everything above 5pounds per kg in supermarkets!

pork belly slices at tesco are full of fat with not meat at all

while there are these: Tesco Pork Boneless Streaky Slices
which are better, at least they look they have some meat

but how could I know to search for Streaky Slices???

is there anything similar with more meat on it? the price I am looking for is ABOUT 3.5 pounds per kg

Ok, ive just googled images of pancetta incase there was a variation between what we have in the uk and what its like elsewhere. All images bring up fatty cuts (belly pork) with very little meat on them. The ratio of fat to meat may be better when buying from a butcher compared to the supermarket, however its supposed to not have much meat, as thats what makes it cheap. Also because its now used in fancy restaurants, its no longer viewed as a poor mans cut and is priced accordingly.

The cheapest, non offal meat in the uk is always joints of pork and as already stated tends to be under £3/kg.

doesn't "joint" mean it has bone? as joint, I imagine it's knee or shoulder or something like that

    so, it won't be boneless

also, I searched for pork joints and I saw that they almost always sell it as a 1kg package and I need smaller quantities, like 1-2 portions for 1-2 people

also, I saw them being sold as a huge piece of meat, which is not convenient as I have to cut it myself

I am looking for cheapest meat that's already cut in slices or something and without bone (or minimal bone) so that I can throw it in the grill

Aldi has Pork Belly (and diced Pancetta, I think, or could be Lardons - similar, but French). Pork Belly in the UK is always quite fatty (typically 50/50 fat to meat).

For something similar, but with more meat, I would suggest gammon (either slices or as a joint of meat). These are available at various quality levels, and are usually reasonably cheap.

Gammon is salty and smoky. If you want plain pork, look for loin steaks, medallions or chops, depending on taste/recipe in mind.

I would suggest maybe going to a traditional butcher's shop, and finding out what suits with their help.

Here is Aldi's Pork page, which might help you with the names of the different products...

Probably the cheapest real(ish) meat is going to be a value gammon steak, from Asda (£1.30 for 2 slices), Aldi (99p) or Tesco (£1.79).

I tried gammon steaks in pubs and it's extremely hard to cut and chew

also I think it's very salty, like bacon

    I would prefer regular meat
