There's a very useful board on here that you might not have heard about:
Money Saving Old Style
Don't let the name put you off. Yes, there are a few rather obscure threads there, and a few of the regulars seem to smell strangely of vinegar
, but they are full of useful advice including:
How to cook just about anything - lots of good recipies. Make Mum proud - prepare yourself a few nutritious meals and save money at the same time.
How to clean just about anything - apparently some people like to remove dirt from around the house from time to time. Conventional wisdom would suggest you use lots of funny lemon scented liquids (the ones with names like "Cif" and "Flash" and "Domestos"). Apparently these are all a waste of time and money - hooray! - and all you really need is some vinegar and an old toothbrush. Or something.
Other recent gems include what to do with leftover mashed potato, things to do with oranges, how to remove strange cooking smells from your hands, and how to get rid of the smell of cigarette smoke (especially useful after house parties, no doubt).
Um yeah, so if you're a little bored with revising go and find some nutritious to cook for dinner over in Old Style. After all, if you eat better, you'll learn better. And there will be a bit more money for  too.
I have it on good authority that you're perfectly welcome there, and they'll try to keep the complaints about "the youth of today" to a minimum. Have fun!

There's another thread now about What to take to uni which might help out mum's packing for their younglings and which would benefit from any tips you might have about what you found useful, what you missed taking with you, and what you never used...Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
