Buying an Xbox 360?

Am going to buy one second hand. The Xbox one is too costly & i don't game enough for that outlay.
Q1: Xbox 360 Slim or Xbox 360 E (or Elite)? I read that the Elite came later so is newer but have also read that it isn't as good as the slim.
I don't know if this is true or not so am throwing it out there.
Q2: Hard drive capacity from the get go? I see 4GB, 120GB & 250GB listed. I wont be gaming a great deal. GTA 5 is the one i'll be using to begin with but i've no idea on hard drive capacity needed. Should i just lump for the 250GB or is this really overkill & 120GB is where a not-serious gamer should go?

Don't get the 4gb one, I filled that really fast and I don't game much either. If you get xbox live gold you get a couple of free games to download a month, so you will fill it fast!
I have a slim but cant comment on the elite. If you are quite tech savy you can fit a cheaper hard disk to a 4gb xbox and add the special bootloader to the disk to make the xbox think it is an MS genuine product. I went down that route as I didn't want to pay over the odds for a hard disk.0 -
1 - I think you're getting confused, the E and Elite are two different models from what I recall - the Elite was a revision of the original larger Xbox 360 while the E is a revision of the smaller Xbox slim. I haven't used the E but as far as I'm aware it's a slightly cheaper version of the slim which loses the spdif port and a USB port. The USB isn't so much of an issue but the spdif could be depending on how you want to use the console.
2 - I'd agree on avoiding the 4GB console, unless there's a huge difference in price I'd be inclined towards the 250GB version. The 360 has a fantastic back catalogue of games which you should be able to pick up cheap and it's definitely a good idea to copy them to the hard drive to speed up loading and cut down on noise. That takes up a fair amount of space along with demos and updates you may find space is being eaten up quicker than expected.
I think the 360 is a good choice, as mentioned above there's a huge library of great games available cheap and I actually prefer the 360 as a console. I had a 360 from the start and played for many, many hours on it so I bought an Xbox One but it feels like several steps back from the 360 and I find myself spending most of my time trying to get it working properly rather than actually playing games.

Ah thanks for that. 250gb is probably where id go then. I was looking at that capacity anyway but wasn't sure if I was going overkill.
Still not sure about the slim & elite though. Depends how I want to use it? Not trying to be smart here but simply to play games.
Oh & yes id be buying xbox live too.0 -
While I agree that next gen consoles are expensive, but the 360 isn't a good substitute. It's ten years old and is really not supported anymore.0

That totally depends.
I want a cheap console to play games available on the xbox 360 with friends who have xbox 360s. I'm not a big gamer so don't care for anything that's coming out in the next x-months/years.0 -
Hmm. I understand that I've been asking the wrong question?
I should be asking slim or "E" and not slim or Elite? With E being newest.
Either way it'll be an Xbox 360 I'll be purchasing which suits my requirements most.
So, slim or "E"?0 -
The 'E' is the newer Revision of the console so would be newer than the Slim.
Really its more a question of aesthetics and what people prefer the look of.
Buying preowned then you need to consider what kind of guarantee may be offered should it develop a fault or have been banned from xbox live (consoles can be banned for a number of reasons)..
Also with preowned you may need to consider how well the console has been looked after (knocks and scuffs and damages disks) , some of which may not have been checked \noticed by the seller when they've appraised it for selling..JustAnotherSaver wrote: »Hmm. I don't know if it makes any difference here but I was planning on buying from CEX & not some bloke at a car boot sale or eBay.0

Dont worry about the size at all. I have the 4gb console and all i did was pruchased a hard drive (that slots into the console not a usb) and this was 50gb. Just look on ebay, if its worth getting a cheap console and spending an extra £15/£20 on a hard drive then go ahead and get one.Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0
