Generally speaking other potential lenders cannot see your bank account details on your credit file
You'd be surprised at how much information is available to 'closed user groups'.
And if you don't want to give them to MBNA, you can always apply for a card from another lender.
Could you provide an example or two of card providers who don't carry out a secondary identity verification by asking for bank details during an online application for a credit card?

Maybe it varies by lender who does the search but I know for sure that I used to be able to see at the very least the last 4 digits of the account and usually the full account number.

Can you give some examples of the types of information that these groups can see?

Information of the type they submit to the group. Google 'principles of reciprocity'.

You seem to imply that these groups can access data that most people hadn't considered was available. I see no evidence of this. Essentially, they cannot identify the service providers of credit products. I know the way CRAs operate is problematic in general terms (e.g. no quality control, lax regulation, etc.) but can you elaborate on what you are saying?

Your account number and sort code of most current accounts is mentioned on the credit report that the searcher sees.

    It's not on mine.

Most of it is starred out.

    No, we aren't.
Our bank details are printed on all our cheques that we give to random people or companies.

That's as may be, but with the details printed on a cheque, I (or anyone else) could set up a direct debit to a charity of my choice, from that account.

Worth keeping your bank details as safe as possible, just in case.

Issuers see different data to what a consumer sees. For example, on an issuer search the company names are blanked out.

Some credit card applications ask for bank details to set up a direct debit for the minimum payment, especially if you are requesting a balance transfer at application time.
