Gas boiler safety check

I'm buying a property, and had a gas check carried out.

I was not there for the check, the estate agent was there. The report has come back and one of the items has been ticked as a FAIL.

This was in answer to the question:

Is the Protective Equipotential bonding satisfactory? FAIL.

What does this mean, and what needs to be done to remedy it?

In answer to the question in a later section of the form: 'Is the boiler safe to use?' the answer was 'yes'.

the Protective Equipotential bonding will have to be repaired before a pass certificate should be issued.

this should be supplied to you when you buy the house , a failure may worry your mortgage company

It probably means that something - possibly the gas supply pipe - is not earthed. Ten minute job.

    I wouldnt worry about it..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

It does mean that there is no electrical earth bond to the Gas and/or Water pipes. Easy to fix and should be done ASAP.

It doesn't necessarily mean there is NO earth bond, simply that it is not satisfactory. (Perhaps wrong size earth cable, or the connections [bonds] are corroded. Although it could also mean no bond).

As others have said, should be an easy fix.

There is no requirement for gas safety certificate on a private house!

in that case do not worry , however the mortgage Co "may" ask for it before issuing a mortgage , or reduce the amount until a certificate is produced

    in the OPs own words

"I'm buying a property, and had a gas check carried out."

I wonder who wanted the gas check , father xmas?

Or that the bonding is there, but not visible.

How easy it is to fix depends on how easy/disruptive it is to run a 10mm green/yellow cable from where the gas pipe enters the house to the main earthing terminal which is usually at the electricity service intake.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
