Can anyone advise me which LED bulbs are best buys.
I need 4 GU 10 ones for spotlights & 10 Candle shape ones for other lighting.
Can anyone suggest the best place to buy them. I have been looking around the local stores and they seem very expensive for one bulb.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm getting desperate now.

Aldi had some GU10s recently for £5 or £6 each. I bought some last time they had them in last year and they are very good, better than the Osram ones I got for £11 each.
Candle bulbs I got some TCP(?) brand ones from homebase which were a little pricey but good. I have had a couple from ikea too but had problems with one flickering occasionally.
I have also bought from LedHut and found them to be good too.
It's worth doing a quick calculation of how much you will save on electricity before replacing the bulbs, but savings could be substantial especially of replacing incandescent bulbs.
I also replaced a couple of CFl bulbs recently even though it wasn't cost effective, because I was sick of the CFL warm up time so the extra money was worth it to me.0 -
LIDL have them in pretty often, but not at the moment
Keep an eye out in Wilkinsons and the supermarkets. They often have some cheap but I don't know of any current offersChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -

The GU 10 are currently 50 watt halogen bulbs so was thinking of changing them to led thinking they will use less energy.
I have got energy saving light bulbs in the other lighting and they look ugly for the type of lighting fixture they sit in. Candle bulbs would look much better.
I will have a look on LedHut and see what they have got.If i could i would, but i cannot so i wont, but maybe one day i will.0 -
I've got these: http://www.diy.com/departments/diall-gu10-4w-spot-led-light-bulb-pack-of-2/272149_BQ.prd
They claim to be 27w equivalent but I used them to replace compact fluorescents that were claimed to be 35w equivalent & these are much brighter.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -

They are a good price but won't be anywhere near as bright as a 50w halogen so OP may be disappointed0 -

I bought 8 of those 2 years ago and they're brighter than the 50W we used before.

One broke recently and got replaced free of charge by the manufacturer. Highly recommended.0 -
we have gu10 lights in the kitchen and i tried 5 watt led types as replacements and they are hopeless even though they are supposed to be equivalent to standard 50 watt bulbs,im going to buy some 9 watt ones from china and see how i get on with them
be aware theres cold white and soft white types too
i found a pack of 10 for about £15 the other night on ali express i believe0 -

I guess 5W != 5W. What you need to look for is the luminous intensity. The ones I mentioned above are brighter than the 50W standard bulbs I used to buy in Poundland before.0 -
Home Bargains have started to stock some LED bulbs. That did have som GU10's in our local store the last time I was in a week or so back. They were either £2.99 or £3.99, which I thought was the best price I had seen for these.0

Didn't I read somewhere recently that under an EU directive led bulbs will be illegal shortly ?0
