When I got a new kitchen a few years ago, I opted for two 4 x spotlight ceiling fittings, using G10 halogens. That's 400W with all the lights on, and of course keeping them on was costing a fortune. The bulbs would regularly blow, roughly 1-2 a month. It was getting very expensive, so I bit the bullet and bought 8 x G10 LED bulbs from an ebay seller. 8 x 6W bulbs cost me £15.99. Not only were they far cheaper than the halogens, but they have lasted about 18 months without a single failure. The light they give is brighter and slightly harsher, but no big deal. I'm a convert.

I second the post by elstimpo. I buy from a great company who've quickly replaced a couple that went faulty early. Search using the words well-lit.co.uk. They have some very useful info on choosing led bulbs on their site.
