Electricity bill spike

The OP, if what they have posted is in any way correct, has said they do not have an immersion heater.
Therefore they presumably have gas for some purposes, which probably includes space heating.
On that basis, one could be of the opinion that January consumption is about correct and February consumption too high.
4 units per day is very low usage.0 -
Even in the summer when we are away and only the freezer, router, Sky box and a video surveillance camera are on I can't get my consumption down to 120kw in a month, that's less than 4kw a day or less than 160 watts/hour.
I'd guess than with a fridge, freezer, some lights and a couple of hours or TV you'd easily manage to consume more than that.
I'd say that your March consumption was a bit high, we are all electric (heating & hot water) and only managed 700watts.
It looks very much like both Jan & Feb were wrong and March is trying to catch up. Have you checked the meter readings that you gave FU. You did give FU readings and record them yourself didn't you?
Have you checked that the readings used were the ones you gave? If you don't give them a reading they guess and their guesses bear no relationship to reality, however they do tell you what their guess will be so you've usually got time to make sure that they get a reading.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

this is what I assume, adding up all 3 months readings and dividing it into days works out around 17 units a day.0 -
(120 kWh is a perfectly normal (and feasible) usage for a small household. You're not going to get it much lower than that without not using anything at all - but a reasonable floor.)
Of course catch-up is more probable and it is an unlikely usage.0 -
If the OP's figures are correct Jan and Feb price per unit 15-16p but March just over 9p! (assuming my sums are correct!)0

What concerns me is that all the OP's figures are approximates and looks as though they've come from the bills rather than actual readings
The bills should have been made up to actual meter readings and should therefore be exact to the unit and to the penny, not approximates.
They just look like random estimates so it's hard to comment or give advice except that they need checking properlyNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
4 units per day is very low usage.
I live by myself and even during December or January my usage hardly gets above 2 kWh per day, that's in a fairly large 2 bed flat. I wouldn't say I'm overly frugal but things like LED lighting and A rated appliances make a difference
So depending on the OP's situation 4 kwh could be frugal, average or extravagant.0 -
I do submit the metre readings every month and yes, some months our usage is only £20 (for two full time working adults) but usually between £25 and £35 depending on how much we're home in the evenings and weekends.
I have the exact amounts and readings from all the bills but just put down rough amounts for people to get an idea so may have made a mistake!
Our 2015 usage is about the same as 2014, slightly higher but not much.
We have gas for cooking and heating.
I am going to call tomorrow to speak to the energy company. Thank you for your suggestions.0
