How Honest Do You Have To Be Re: Anti Social Neighbours When Selling A House?

To be honest in this situation I would have to put myself first. Vague non committal answers and leave it to someone else to deal with

Honesty is the worst policy here.

I agree. On the SPIF I would enter no disputes with neighbours. If that is the truth then you are protected as you hadn't lied. One seems to forget that everyone has a different level of tolerance on noise, nuisance, pets etc.

If you had alerted the police or council, they you have to disclose it.

Why disclose something when there's no need to?

And even if they did sue in the absence of said recorded proof, it will simply be your word against theirs.

You'd have to be [STRIKE]some kind of idiot[/STRIKE] pretty naive to state anything about the neighbours on the PIF.

If there's no dispute officially recorded, then there's nothing to report...

    These 3 ^^^

If there is nothing on record, no complaints to police or anything, then why on earth would you say anything?

To heck with anyone and everyone. I would just cover my own back. No need to disclose anything.

No dispute = nothing to declare. My neighbours might drive me insane with their shenanigans but that might be because I'm a mardy old trout and they may be a happy noisy family.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Hurrah! Thank you all. Though there have been times when we wanted to go to the Police, we never did. So IF my Mom agrees to sell the house, then we have no issue. However, I doubt anyone local would want it as the neighbours do have a rather tardy reputation and people tend to stay well clear of them, but who knows, someone might be crazy enough to want to live next door to them.
  • Begins to see why my house was sold to non-local me...

My vendor (the person who inherited this house from last owner) was making out he was on friendly terms with nfh and it didn't quite ring true. Nfh has told me she got on well with last owner.

The local grapevine has told me very different - ie that last owner absolutely hated nfh. The local grapevine has duly had further information fed back into it with clear details as to the way things are.
