I'm up and posting at this time because I've just got in
Would have been a lot earlier if the penultimate train back from the Big Smoke hadn't been generating what sounded like thunderclaps from the electric lines.

Wrong kind of snow?
About 3cm here, kids will try to make snowman, not really enough for sledging.I think....0 -
Morning all. I have a few comments today as the conversation yesterday evening on here is really interesting.
When we had our children nearly 30 years ago DH was more than happy to be a trailblazer and stay at home with them while I worked. I was and still am successful in my role and still enjoy new challenges, but what made me not do 70 hour weeks and now try to stick to around 40 was a health scare that kind of put things into perspective and made me rethink my priorities. Also DH went back to work full time when both children were at school. He also has a successful career exceeding expectations but works long long hours and never properly switches off.
As DH is actually home today the temperature is at least 22 degrees in here. When I'm on my own I never have it above17 degrees. About to go out and walk the dogs to cool down. No snow here though, just ice.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
At an interview I had a few months ago, I was asked if I had plans for anymore children as I am still just about of child bearing age.
My answer was easy - Would be a miracle if I did as the equipment required was removed in 2001!
My HR department would have kittens if I asked someone that in an interview!! Their view would certainly be that such a question is discriminatory and illegal and I expect they are right.
Mind you, they are pretty risk averse and advise us not to make small talk before and after the interview in case you subconsciously discriminate against the candidate when you find out they live North Of The River.0 -
It's freezing in here. Have just got back to the UK, so sitting on the sofa covered in a fleece blanket. The heating was on low, but still needs to ramp up quite a bit. Temperature inside the house was 15 degrees when we got in. Our preferred daytime temp is 22 degrees.
Took an overnight flight from the States. It was totally blown as a Virgin flight hadn't turned up and they were loading people onto any available plane heading to Europe to get people home. The poor sods getting off faced a five hour bus journey in the snow from Gatwick to Manchester.
I liked flying through the snow, first time I've ever done that. Though had to wait for a stand as there was a huge de-icing backlog and planes couldn't leave their stands. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Should also say, in terms of remembering temperatures.. while 28 is 82, 16 is also 61, so two back to fronts. I also remember that 10 is 50 as they are both nice round numbers. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? We are currently considering how to divide up working/looking after the twins as OH's maternity leave ends at the end of February.
Despite being a higher rate taxpayer, if she were to go back full time it would cost us approximately £800 a month for her to go to work as nursery+train ticket is £800 more than her net salary. Ruddy twins.
She could take another year off unpaid and still keep her job / stay in final salary pension, but she wants to go back as new legislation which materially impacts her job has been introduced whilst she was on mat leave and she doesn't want to get so out of touch with it that she becomes unemployable. It looks like she will probably go back 3 days a week with one of this days working from home which will only cost us about £500 a month for the luxury of her going to work.
I could go part time as well but I earn more than the cost of nursery so for every day per week I don't work we are losing even more money so not really a viable option.
When the kids turn 3 it starts to become more complex as it looks like the govt is capping free child care provision so that we won't qualify for it. I will need to consider going part time at that point just to lower my taxable income so that we can afford to keep sending them to nursery otherwise I think our cash savings will run out before they go to school!0 -

Interesting. These days, with paternity leave available, it might not be sex-discrimination to ask that question, provided everybody is asked the same question. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Inside it's 59 degrees F, so I popped a little bit of heating on, just to take the edge off.
We've just been for a walk. There's still a bit of slush** around, which will be lethal if it freezes over tonight.
** Slush mixed with mud, which DW calls slushy-mushy.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
