Flight Cancelled and then weather

KLM cancelled my flight (BHX-AMS) with 20 hours notice. This was the first leg of a journey to Hannover. Eventually, I managed to get them to re-book me on a Lufthansa flight via Frankfurt. departing two hours later.
However, on the morning of the flight, the weather in NW Europe deteriorated significantly and the majority of the flights were delayed due to high winds. The Lufthansa flight departed 4 hours late, they put me up in a hotel in Frankfurt overnight and I had to travel home by train the next day without my case.
I know that the Lufthansa delay was outside their control (wind), so I have no claim against them.
However, if KLM had not cancelled my flight (second day on the run that they cancelled this flight), then I might have made it home sooner.
In this case, it appears that the KLM cancellation is a claimable event, but the delay was exacerbated by the weather (outside their control). Do I have a claim?
TIA
Chris

This should be in the KLM/Air France thread....
However, irrespective of the weather that affected your Lufthansa flight, you are due compensation under reg 261/2004 IF your flight with Lufthansa flight was scheduled to arrive 2 hours after your original KLM flight...
Article 5
Cancellation
1. In case of cancellation of a flight, the passengers concerned shall:
(a) be offered assistance by the operating air carrier in accordance with Article 8; and
(b) be offered assistance by the operating air carrier in accordance with Article 9(1)(a) and 9(2), as well as, in event of re-routing when the reasonably expected time of departure of the new flight is at least the day after the departure as it was planned for the cancelled flight, the assistance specified in Article 9(1)(b) and 9(1)(c); and
(c) have the right to compensation by the operating air carrier in accordance with Article 7, unless:
(i) they are informed of the cancellation at least two weeks before the scheduled time of departure; or
(ii) they are informed of the cancellation between two weeks and seven days before the scheduled time of departure and are offered re-routing, allowing them to depart no more than two hours before the scheduled time of departure and to reach their final destination less than four hours after the scheduled time of arrival; or
(iii) they are informed of the cancellation less than seven days before the scheduled time of departure and are offered re-routing, allowing them to depart no more than one hour before the scheduled time of departure and to reach their final destination less than two hours after the scheduled time of arrival. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Is this a softening of position or is JP just bored with the Easter holiday?
I seem to recall a post from the 'old' JP on another thread writing: 'Personally, I am not even going to read posts that are not on the correct thread, let alone answer them.'0 -
It could be argued that it could also be on the lufthansa thread so think we'll let former expat off as a first timer
It''s the repetitive do I have to accept vouchers new threads that are the bane.0 -
Had the LH flight been on time, I would not have been late at the final destination because the connection in FRA was much tighter.
It looks like KLM did what they should and Lufthansa did what they could.
Thanks.0 -
Skiddies- i thought this was a more interesting one and took the bait....
expat - post this in the KLM thread but with far more details - date and original times of travel, airports, connections etc and what you ended up with via Lufthansa before and after the weather delay.
we can then analyse more easily - too many unknowns at this stageIf you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide
