I have not heard of using vinegar as fabric conditioner - could anyone tell me more? ie how much and what type of vinegar....thanksAugust grocery challenge: £50
Spent so far: £37.40 :A0 -
I tried cheap coffee and tea bags:eek: never again - I'm sticking to my Douwe eggberts and yorkshire tea.
I like stardrops but also like Flash when its on offer as it smells so nice and clean
Toilet roll is another thing we tried but prefer the better quality.
I have a breadmaker and the bread is nice but as I work full time I just cant keep up with the quantity needed so just use it occasionally now.
But for all the good quality things we prefer there are lots more value things that we have swapped to which allows us our few luxuries.:TDo what you love :happyhear0 -
I can't buy cheap sausages YAK!!
OS to me is about making the best of what you have and not about buying the lowest grade food available. If my budget doesn't stretch to sausages with at least 70% meat then we don't eat sausages or we make a couple stretch out a lentil stew. Cheap foods don't have to be the worst quality -think dried beans, barley, carrots, potatoes, rabbit....0 -
i tried buying value meat but stopped on ethical grounds, I now buy freezer packs of free range or organic online and make it stretch it probably costs the same over a month as we just have more meat free meals but the quality is completly brilliant0

I tried value washing powder with soda crystals. Was awful and didn't clean my H's shirts as well. Reverted back to Daz purchased from Costco.
Everything else (stardrops, HM bread, SC all works well for me!)I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

i agree that 'os' isn't about doing everything on the cheap, its about making the best of what you have...
I've tried stardops but feel a bit 'emporers new clothes' about it and don't think its any different from any other cleaner and will do back to vinegar and water spray with lovely essential oils when the sd runs out.
My hubby doesn't like bread machine bread but i must get back into using it to make rolls etc.
Love the sc for somethings but not everything - is trail and error atmPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

absolutely and I think for me that got lost for a while in the frenzy to cut down on everything. I have now reverted back to 'proper' soap powder ( tesco cheap stuff just wasnt getting my clothes clean) quality meat (we just have less of it ) and I bulk out with veg and pulses and the family dont seem to have noticed.
I do like stardrops though0 -
mine is rubber chicken it just was not working in our house Oh would moan and want more and go and pick the chicken so very little left I would hide it and he still would find it !0

I used to buy Tesco value mild cheddar, but it's far too mild and you have to use loads to flavour anything, so it's a bit of a false economy. I've now gone back to buying non value, whatever's on offer.

I don't really like Stardrops! Doesn't seem to clean any better than mr T value cleaner and I think it has a really nasty 'industrial' sort of smell. I do like my bathroom to smell nice and fresh when I have cleaned it so I'm afraid i am going to dump the stardrops. Same with vinegar as a softener. it's OK, esp if you are drying on the line cos you still get a nice fresh smell to your washing. Usually buy mr T softener but Comfort was on offer for only 5p more when I last bought it, so I went for that instead. Only use a little bit in each wash and the washing smells great.
Have also given up value Teabags as OH kept moaning and when BIL remarked on the grey tea thought it was time to change and bought Typhoo when it was on offer.
Still buy value toilet rolls though - Morrisons is far superior to Tesco!0
