I made spaghetti bolognaise last week and there was enough bolognaise for that night's meal for me and the OH, plus enough to save for another night. I went upstairs and OH took it upon himself to dish it out. He shared out ALL the bolognaise between our two plates.

When I said, 'That's SO not OS!', he ate the entire plate of food to prove a point! I had no sympathy when he felt sick later ;)

He's also requested that we put more washing powder in the washing machine (I was using half washing powder and half soda crystals or whatever those things are). Men, eh? :rotfl:

As a man. How does he know so much about washing up liquid?
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • My OH is quite well OS-trained and not very observant, so I could get away with most things! The fact that we don't always have the same brands probably helps though - he would blame any watery-ness on the brand I think.
  • I don't water mine down, I use fairy too. BUT I put it in an old soap dispenser, and boy does that work.... I go through half a large bottle in 2 months ish! I bought 3 large bottles on offer and they lasted a year!

Ps. never let a man serve the food...! I couldn't give over the reins of control!!
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

My OH is banned from 'helping ' portion out.

A couple of examples - he decided to 'help' by freezing portions of the chilli I had batch cooked. Didn't add the kidney beans as I normally do and then got 7 portions out of 2lb mince.

I made curry for tea once and then had to pop out for something - came back and said 'where's my tea'. It just never occured to him that I might actually want to eat:rotfl:

We told him a few days ago that his eyes are bigger than his belly but his reply was 'have you ever seen me leave anything' - so how come I'm the fat one here:D

Otherwise he goes with every OS thing I do - except oats in the bolog, he won't eat savoury porridge.

DH is not very observant so thinner shower gel etc would just pass him by. As for the washing up liquid, well I'm sure he knows what that is, but ....;)

He did comment on the handwash liquid being thinner, so I told him it was clogging the nozzle when thick (true).

After 28 years he is beginning to get the hang of portion control - now the food doesn't actually hang / drip off the edge of the plate!

Come on then, how do you all get away with it??

I'd say "Yes, because you always use twice as much is necessary and it's a waste of money." Though this only works if you've asked him to use less in the first place...which you presumably have?

Really, it's not a question of "getting away" with it. This implies we're children trying to hoodwink a parent. Direct communication, adult to adult, comes first. If they don't respond in a mature way then it's time for the remedial action, but this time it's more you as an adult trying to hoodwink a child into better behaviour.

My hub remains convinced that a scoop (admittedly a small one) of powder and a scoop of soda isn't sufficient to make the laundry not smell.

I get this reminder every now and then when maybe something has not got hung up straight away and is not quite as fragrant.

    I still do it though!
