I think time off may be an issue .You said you want to go for a week! Thats way too short for Hawaii from the UK .I think 3 weeks minimum if you want to break the jouney with a stopover in mainland USA for a day or so each way.

minimum of 3 weeks, WHY, surly 2 weeks is sufficient?

A week OP, personally I would never fly long haul for 7 days, I once flew Thomson to the Caribbean for 7 days, swore I would never repeat that ever again and I would NEVEr use Thomson again!

I was helping a friend with a holiday to Mexico and when pricing up 2 weeks we got better value.

I'd love to hear how it works out for you. When I priced my trip, if I ened up in the UK, rather than DUB, the price increased considerably.

I will report back Murph!:eek:

I'm really hoping to keep it at £2000 pp per ticket per trip.

One week would be absorbed by travel and stopovers and inter island travel robs a few half days.

My family are from the Caribbean so we travel there on a regular basis. We have been to a few of the islands so are not really looking at there as a location. We are willing to do maybe 10 or even 12 days.
Does anyone recommend an alternative destination?

What is it you're after? If just a family get together somewhere hot with a beach, why not the Canaries? As has been said above, it's pointless travelling half way round the world just to sit on a beach. The only point in travelling long distances is if you want to see/do something in that destination which you can't do closer to home.

Thank you all for advice! This is the first time I am planning a trip on such a large scale.
Time off is not an issue as most of my family work in education. We are planning on going for a week.
Hawaii was the chosen destination as a treat for my mum who has recently recovered from ill health and is a place she has always wanted to visit.

Keep the advice coming, it is genuinely appreciated!!

Quite a few problems here that will ruin this holiday.

1 You are trying to give ONE person a holiday and dragging along 10 others..
    2. You are going almost halfway across the world for one Week:eek:
    3. You're a novice at big family holiday planning.

    4. Dec in Hawaii is not cheap! Flights nor hotels.

5 Hawaii is not really an AI place.

    Alternatives.

Even easier, try reading the post I replied to. The OP asked "Does anyone recommend an alternative destination". I was asking the OP what they were after in an alternative destination. The clue is in the text I quoted.

The OP's post you quoted doesn't help with that.

Playa Del Carmen Mexico is great for AI.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.

Still a really long flight for a week tho, as you loose a day either end

Id suggest no more than 8hr flight really, which if looking for sun, really limits OP to canaries at that time of year. However if just looking for a great place to go as a family, with lots to do, id prob head to NY. AI isnt so important in a city either as you can always find somewhere cheap to eat/drink. Although as already stated, nowhere is gn be cheap for accommodation over xmas/new year
