If it's a manufacturer warranty job then you don't need goodwill or favours.
Any local dealer taking umbrage at a vehicle not bought through them is short sighted and risks losing far more profit to be had with ongoing future servicing. What would happen if the OP bought local and then moved? Would people be saying don't move as you'll not get goodwill from another dealer?
yes the warranty work WILL be done , but don't expect things like a courtesy bike , or bike collection , unless the manufacturer demands the franchise do it.
you will get your warranty or service done , but forget friendship or help.
and remember the OP has already asked the for a quote and refused to accept the price , they will not be happy about loosing the sales commission or even the load commission
having mentioned
" local dealer is because the local dealer turned out to be very unethical, and this is a long story, and I have highlighted the issue with senior management at the local dealer,"
I think he might even be asked to leave the premises.0 -

Oh my god "I think he might even be asked to leave the premises." are you a fiction writer or something. My head is spinning. The power of the internet. You say one thing, someone then decides to start making things up, and creating a story out of it. For your record I haven't even entered the dealership's premises in my life to be "asked to leave the premises". Do you guys ever read things properly. I did say its going through the channels - and their management is running an investigation into staff behaviour. I also said I did not want to speak about it. There are also other dealers close by. However, you, and few people by getting distracted are missing the main point of this thread, which was advice about distance purchase. I hate sound a bit frustrated, but I probably am. Please try and not make "huge" assumptions about me. I don't try and do that about you.0 -
Hi Missile, this is a brand new unregistered bike. Am I right in assuming you have bought bikes without visiting in person, just by seeing pictures?
I have bought three new M/Cs sight unseen; Fireblade, Triumph and an Aprilia.

ok , do it your way , you don,t want help , just your hand holding
and I hope the dealer you !!!!ed off tells you to FO when your bike is off the road due to mechanical problems and you need a loan bike.
NOT experience from the internet , I am a biker , I have had bikes collected/deliverd before and I have annoyed a few dealers by buying cheaper.
forget the goodwill and nice chatter off staff after they have had a reprimand due to you,
and PS , I hav,nt got a clue about distance selling , just the facts when it is a new bike and its warranty.
you seem to struggle getting you head around a lot of things

A bit touchy
, a bit bitter? Ouch you hurt my feeling. I am so sorry, you are a true biker, and I have offended you, please forgive me. I need your mercy.
I was about to put a response out, that would give you a reality check on my situation. But there is no point. I do not need to stoop.
This forum, is a tool, a resource, like many other resources in the world. If you don't like my post, then don't respond. You would be doing me a favour. However, please don't make things up. A real biker

Hi, Thanks. Its what I needed to hear. I was thinking the same, but some doubts started creeping in. I will obviously do my due diligence.
I have decided to do the following based on advise from some fellow biker friends:
a) Pay a deposit, and pay the rest on delivery.
b) Ask for pictures of the bike. Current pictures to confirm they have it in the garage.
c) Ask for the VIN number, picture of VIN, and MSO (Manufactures Statement of Origin).
d) Agree everything on company letter headed paper, including bike details, details of payment terms, and when it will be delivered.
Did you do something like that, or did you just pay them the money and wait for it to arrive?
Thanks in advance.Hi, With a brand new bike you should have no problem. You know exactly what you are getting. Unless it is some obscure Korean bike(?) it will come with full manufacturer's warranty which any franchised dealer will honour.

If your report on the dealer's unethical practices causes them to either be shut down or lose their manufacturer franchise where is the next nearest dealer for your servicing and repairs? Is it close enough for you not to need to take excessive time away from your self employment?0

I really wouldn't have any issues with buying a brand new vehicle at a distance.
But I certainly WOULD be thinking very hard about where to get it serviced/warranty work done if I trusted the local dealer so little that I was thinking of going to the press about them if my formal complaint didn't give the results I wanted. I'd be looking for the next nearest dealer. And, in that case, I'd be wondering if they could match the distance deal on purchase.
BTW - you say you "don't want to talk about it" (in which case, why raise it in the first place), but since you apparently have no commercial relationship with this dealer, what do you hope to achieve from these complaints?0 -
@Agrinnal, there are other dealers just a little bit further. It's not going to be too much of an issue.
@AdrianC, I mentioned it without the details, because people always ask why aren't you buying from you local dealer. You will notice that, I have not mentioned their name or the details. All I wanted was the answer or advice on distance buying. I don't meant offend anyone. But at the same time, I don't want incorrect info to be made up or assumed.
Anyway, in short I have my answers. I would like to thank everyone who has participated, and taken the time to write or advice. I am going to bow out for now. Thank you.0
