Assuming they don't - I am now wondering whats the best way to attract a hedgehog to take up residence here (not even sure if there are any remotely nearby).
Leave shoe cleaning brushes on the ground - with the handle side down - hedgepigs will then rush to be with their friends
Seriously though - Hedgehogs are in decline nationwide
They are definitely our friends in the garden - if you have them in your garden, consider yourself extremely lucky !!
They are incredible to watch - snuffling little noses - scurrying around the place.. We last had one in our garden 12 years ago - it set off the security light !!0 -
I think it's hedgehogs who knock over the smaller plant pots here looking for slugs, but they don't eat plants. They do need a way to get in and out of your garden though. Those concrete gravel boards must stop them.0

In the past I have used nematodes- expensive.
I have had a hedgehog - foxes moved in so no hedgehogs seen for a while.
I have used salt but find I have to go back to the house and get the salt come back and pour it onto the slug.
I now pick them up with a metal trowel place them on a concrete slab and bash them hard , its quick and I find it painless, can't say the same for the slug though.
I have used slug pubs - found it to be a waste of beer.
Snails make a hissing sound when dropped into a bucket of hot water.
I do get a few toads though I think they enjoy a slug or two.0 -
