Dismissal at end of probation ....

  • My experience of the last couple of months has been walk into the room, then, where there hasn't been a telephone interview I guarantee being asked if I'm unemployed (I see their face fall) when they realise I'm 'working' (proof that CV's are skim read)

Debs this will be easy x

I'm filling in an application now - I've put dates in and under 'reason for leaving' I've put 'end of probationary period' as surely I need to put something?
But you are still employed there - you were given seven days notice yesterday. So there is no "reason for leaving". As of right now, you can put "September 2014 - present" and deal with any questions face to face at the interview (by which time presumably your contract will have come to an end).

Throwing an option in - I've been told I may be able to resign! Would you resign or leave as is at 'end of contract'?

Personally I would stick to 'end of contract' or 'contract finished' until you see what happens with the company.

I was let go after failing to pass the probationary period of my first job. To be fair, I sucked at it but I guess that is what you get when you hire an inexperienced hard of hearing person for a data input role and then change it to cold calling without providing any help. (No equality act then).

It worked out okay because the guy who let me go was also asked to leave. He'd run the company into the ground. They dissolved the company and moved somewhere else. I was able to put something like 'Let go, company dissolved, current address unknown' on forms. I didn't have any problems signing back on because I was under the disability employment adviser before I got the job. I think she'd seen it all before :(

I'm three jobs on now and have never been asked about it. Nobody has mentioned trying to get a reference from them. I regret letting it happen but I can't change the past. Don't let it get to you. It's been six years and I still get a flash of panic when the phone rings at work. Try and stay positive about what you've learned and how you'll do better at your next job.
'til the end of the line

Well, didn't get the option to resign. Probationary period ended due to not hitting their 100% target - I was at 80%+ every month. Hey ho. Thanks all for your advice
