Calor Gas Reconnection

I use Calor gas in my rented apartment. It is the only service available where I live. I have been cut off for a late payment, even though I had phoned to let them know that I couldn't pay until payday. They have told me there is no record of the call. They are charging me £90 reconnection charge even though the late payment was only for a bill of £65. Is there anything I can do as I simply cannot afford this fee? Surely this seems unfair and not at all proportional
