Quick question re blocked aqua card account

in Credit cards
Hi. In short - had aqua card several years - usually only paid minimum monthly payment - limit increased several times, currently at £6000 - was maxed out until earlier this week, when I borrowed money to clear balance - account is now actually £175 in credit.
The problem is, since clearing balance earlier this week, the account has been blocked, and when I called aqua today to find out why, they said they couldn't discuss my account(?) and that I must wait 10 days for a letter from head office(?)
Just wondered if anyone on here might know why aqua might have done this?

Blocked and "couldn't discuss" - this doesn't sound good.
Typically this means some fraud suspicions or AML paranoia.0 -
Was going to say as grumbler stated - Seems fishy to them so fraud case opened.0

How did you clear your balance?
Could be they don’t like the fact your account is in credit so much and closed it, but my guess is AML check may have thrown something up.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. Thanks for replies. I transferred the money to aqua account via my bank's website, using money transferred from a relative's account to mine, so their investigation shouldn't take long.
It did occur to me that they might've thought I'd cleared balance using proceeds of crime! Just irks that they blocked account without a phone call - they're straight on the phone when you miss a payment - particularly as I'd phoned them before clearing balance to tell them I was going to clear it.
Ah well, be glad to be rid of the card - awful company to deal with.0 -
Exactly the same thing happened to me today! I've also had my card a long time (at least 5 years).
I took out a loan to consolidate my card debts. Paid off my Aqua card in full.
Today I tried to use it and it was declined. I have a £6k limit. Called them and the woman said she "could not discuss my account" as it had been "referred to head office due to fraud concerns" ?!?!?
OP - did it ever get resolved for you?0 -
Hi, What was the outcome you all on this subject as they've just done this to me after paying off a large portion of my debt?0

Hi i was wondering how you managed to resolve the issue i have paid off quite a large ammount from my aqua account and had my card blocked without reason aswell
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks0 -
It is difficult to understand why repaying a credit card by direct payment from your own bank account should raise fraud concerns on the part of the credit card issuer.
I do wonder why you chose to overpay by £175 though. That is odd behaviour.0 -

The moral of the story is don't put your credit card account in credit and if you do spend it ASAP if possible by yesterday.
As others have said most likely a fraud investigation but not necessarily. Could be they have blocked the account/card in preparation for closing the account.0
