O/S Daily Thursday 2nd April 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, cloudy but wet underfoot and wind has died down thankfully.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS1 still in his pit.

Dinner last night was egg, bacon, hash browns, mushrooms and beans, bread and butter/toast. Tonight we’re having ham, egg and chips – easy and quick and not too heavy.

Work yesterday wasn’t as busy as we thought, but considering they had been non stop from Thursday and Friday last week, we were busy Saturday and had a horrific Monday I’m not surprised. I think a lot of people paid the c/tax when they paid their rent, rent day is Mondays, so we’re thinking that they would only visit once and pay both at that time, instead of coming back 2 days later. Hoping for my colleagues it’s not too bad today.

Didn’t get as much done as I’d hoped when I got back yesterday, had nail appointment after work so didn’t get home until just before 4pm, organised dinner. DS1 then helped me with DH’s new satnav getting it registered on their website – what a faff, we couldn’t make it turn on, then it would but wouldn’t stay on etc, spent ages trying to sort it out, DS1 then lost his temper because we couldn’t sort it and stormed off to his room. So left me to try to sort it – then I managed to get it to turn on and just got the logo come up and then went straight to a blank black screen with a battery picture in the middle with it showing no charge – so plugged it into my pc tower so that would recharge the battery and left it for a while, then DS1 calmed down, and we were able to get it registered and sorted eventually, once it had charged for a bit. We both thought it was faulty and I’d gathered everything up to return it to the shop for an exchange/refund. The instruction booklet was a complete waste of time- didn’t have any kind of help in it whatsoever. I’ve found that very typical of everything nowadays – mobile phones, laptops etc. Also DW not emptying properly so needed to sort that bailed the water out with a jug, cleaned the filter and then ran a cleaning cycle with a cleaner through it, seems to have worked as last nights’ dinner pots have been washed ok, and the water has drained, at some point today once I’ve got all the washing done, I’ll run a cleaning cycle through the washing machine as well so that they are both sorted.

Today I’ll be going into town first thing, visit the bank, and do the food shopping, then I need to take DS2 to buy him some jeans and some other sort of leisure trousers – he has hardly anything that fits at the moment, he’s gone up and outwards at the same time – hoping I can get some cheapish jeans and then a couple of pairs of trackies as these tend to be better whilst he keeps having these changes in size and shape! Also need to do washing, drying and ironing, then pack so that the bags can be put in the car except the last minute ones’ so we’re not banging about in the early hours and disturbing the neighbours! Really looking forward to it though, just wish we could stay longer really.

Have a good Thursday and enjoy the long weekend.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Bright skies here and not raining! I have a jeans wash on at the moment so will peg that out before I go to work.

tru - So pleased to hear that Scampi has friends that understand!

Had a lovely evening last night, met up with a friend and another friend's DD who is back from Oz for a few weeks, I will be taking the DD down to Yorkshire tomorrow to her parents so I will spend the weekend there. Not sure if I am going further south to meet my best friend who is also home from Oz for her DNs wedding. I'm off for a fortnight from this afternoon so no hurry to get home.

Got general housework to do tonight after hospice shift so must get on with that.

Enjoy the day. Hope everyone's ok. Take care. XX
  • Morning all. Quite a pleasant start here for a change! The wind has dropped, all is calm and we actually have some blue sky. If it stays like this we may get the back patio cleaned at last. It's an absolute disgrace after the winter.

I had a good night out with the ladies last night. A good old natter, a lovely meal and the wine was flowing! I may have had just one too many though as I feel a bit "heady" this morning. Now on my second coffee of the morning!

Ald* shop to do this morning as I still have my 2nd £5 voucher to use and today is the final day for it. Other than fruit, veg and dairy we don't need a great deal so will top up our wine stocks to bring it up to £40.

DD and the 3 DGDs are off to the caravan this morning. Supposed to be till next Wednesday but they are coming back on Sunday for a family christening and going back over on Monday. Hopefully we might get over ourselves the week after for a few days as surely the weather will be warming up a bit by then!

There's still a bit of gammon in the fridge from Sunday so must use that up today. I'll probably chop it up and do ham and mushroom omelettes at lunchtime. Dinner still to be decided so will delve into the freezer and see what catches my eye!

Have a good day all and take care whatever you are up to x

    Morning everyone.

No overnight rain or wind and we too have blue skies. Blooming cold but at least all is calm.

Today I have a hospital consultation about getting a blocked gland removed. I thought they would do the procedure today but was told thst that would happen later.

After that we're heading off to Inverary Castle, it's got a short tour and a great tea-room. Love places with good tea-rooms.

Am finding visitors tiring and didn't expect to have to do do much with them.

Breakfast coming up then we'll have lunch out somewhere. Yesterday we went to a lovely little independent garden centre called Poppies, just north of Oban and really enjoyed a great lunch. Two of us shared an enormous meringue and made total pigs of ourselves.

Camelot - hope your trip south is fun.

Hope everyone has a good Thursday.
  • Good morning all,

Rain duing the night so therefore damp now, hoping it will clear up.

Have a few errands to do this morning. When our neighbour moved she had her mail re-directed to us so will pop round with that, there isn't much now.

Pop into doctors to pick up DDs prescription and we need to go to the chemist to pick up our medication.

Will go into our friendly greengrocers for salad stuff and anything else which looks good.

We have an A*da shop being delivered between 12 and 2, mainly heavy items, which is an enormous help.

Gers you haven't had much time yet, have you, to enjoy your retirement?

    Have a good day everyone

    Morning All,

    I hope everyone is well,

Blue skies here too although there is a touch of frost on the grass and the car. The sight of the blue sky has really cheered me up this morning.

No plans today really apart from the usual chores list which is quite short today, especially as i managed to get through yesterdays list.

I am feeling a little better today so hopefully the infection is clearing.

Have a warm, safe and happy day everyone

    regards

  • Good Morning everyone, damp and grey here but yesterdays rain didn't materialise until late in the evening so we didn't get wet coming home from the quiz. DD and I are going back to her house for a few days and I'll be away until Tuesday afternoon having cuddles with that Pushkin cat and generally helping out plus we're going to have a day out somewhere but she has much work to do and I will be manning the housework oars!

Look after yourselves and have a nice day, Lyn xxx.

    Morning all,

rained overnight but its dry and fairly sunny now. Just retrieved my wheelie bin and met a few of my neighbours on the path. Everyone seems so hard done to and stressed. My source of stress is nearly 300 miles away so i'm pretty good right now.

Only woke up once in the night and that was because Millie dog needed a wee. I always let her out last thing before i go to bed but last night not even a threatened toe up the backside would shift her so i left her sleep. Regretted it at 3am though.

Youngest is annoying me, he is shattered on a morning, barely able to drag himself out of bed to go to work, knackered when he comes back from work but still insists on being on his pc till gone midnight. He's meant to be studying for his CCS card as his exam is on the 14th.

Hubby phoned me this morning as usual on his way to work. He's still not happy. They keep putting a load of extras onto his work load. He gets paid more for the extra but he's sick of the driving and refuses to pay for digs closer to the job.

I havent got my Grandson today as his Mummy is off work.

Just bits and peices to do in the house today, still dont know what 'Youngest' is doing the weekend.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.

  • Morning, bright and sunny the wind seems to have dropped.

Nothing planned for the day, OH is going out to sort the shed out, he has hundreds of screws and stuff that need sorting and put in a container for DS2 next time he comes. Now the caravan equipment has gone there is more room to move. There is a unit iin the shed I am thinking of brining into the house. Would like to get another one like it, but have no idea where it originally came from, think it might have been pound stretcher.

We are starting to downsize in earnest ready for a move if a suitable property comes up. I really want to move 12 months in September, but we will have to wait and see what comes up.

    Morning all,

Did not wake up till 10 !! Bliss. I woke early for a wee and made sure DD was up for work then back to bed and slept right through, I am full of cold though and very tired after a manic week at work so must have needed it.

OH has the day off too and is making poached egg and bacon on toast, then we will set too and have a really good clean through, I am working tomorrow but then have the rest of the weekend off so want to get loads done today so that we can relax over the weekend !

Something with chip for dinner will go and look after this, I have a load in the wm and another to go in its a bit overcast here so might not be able to hang out but will see.

    Have good days all xx
