Im Buying A New Laptop Will I Lose My Email Address And Facebook

Options
I have a Toshiba laptop just under two years old. Im going to sell it to a friend and buy a new acer. Obviously I will remove my personal stuff like online banking details and card details by way of a disc from a PC store before I hand it over. I just wanted to know that once I get my new PC if I will have to set up a new Yahoo address and Facebook account or can I still use my current email addy and passwords or do I have to start all over again?

If your passwords are stored in your browser so you don't have to enter them every time you log on then you may be able to back up your profile and use it on the new laptop - I did this with Firefox but I've not tried with any other browser.

I know this probably sounds like a silly question but do you actually know your passwords?

I know some people rely on their browser remembering so much that they never type them in and forget them.

If you didn't know them, it will be a lot easier to recover them whilst you still have access to the websites via your old laptop.

it's not a silly question - the number of people who, after I've had to do a full rebuild after they've got infected that badly just cleaning wasn't an option, then ask me why they can't access fb or similar is scary....and what you posted is EXACTLY how they operated... no password backup of ANY description

maybe some people shouldn't be allowed IT :p

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

I remember all my pass words and I have made a note of them just in case. Will my profile pic remain too?.

Yes - as Cisco001 says, everything in Facebook is stored online.

Do a Factory Restore before you sell it, that will remove all personal data and settings.
You can then use something like CCleaner to overwrite the free space if you wish.

It sounds like you don't know much about computers at all.
I'd recommend doing a lot of research before selling it as I would never sell anything after just deleting things (that you remember). As above, you should look at doing a factory restore on it.

....even if you'd forgotten your password, as long as you know how to access your email, you can usually reset passwords or get a password reminder on most sites you sign up to.

For security they say you should change your password like every few months anyway.

Im not thick. I have bought a clearing disc from a trusted PC shop. This will completely delete any browsing history and bank and card details from the hard drive, it cost £11 which is much cheaper than getting a IT tech to do a manual hard drive wipe.
