Get second opinion. Brake pads wearing in 5k isn't unheard off depends on your driving style and how powerful your vehicle is

And of course on whether it has both front and rear brakes, or just fronts.

If it's one of the Yaris 1.3VVTi FBO (Front Brakes Only) models, it'll wear them out twice as fast due to them doing twice the work.

brake pads (thickness) are not checked at an MOT (they do not remove wheels), only the braking efficiency , you could have pads down to 00000.5 mm thick , but if the car stops , it passes an MOT
I had a "Rear brake pads look low" advisory on my MOT last week.

I have also had similar brake advisories in the past.

I have the MOTs done at Halfords as they offer a 50% off deal. £29.50 instead of £59. They do usually try to sell me a service but I go elsewhere to a trusted independent garage.

This time round they just told me the car had passed the MOT and gave me the key back. They didn't even try to sell me a brake pad replacement service.

I am selling the car so I will advise the purchaser that the rear pads may need changing soon.

I'm confused, maybe missed something...... in the time you've owned it you've been advised low pads and changed...

the vehicle has two sets of pads, front and rear, so my thoughts are front worn last year now rear have caught up............

People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”

    I splashed out on a Yaldi3, it's well smart.
  • I have an old BMW and it went to a dealer for a service last week. Before they did any work, they sent me a video of what they thought needed doing and then they called after I had watched the video. (So it showed a damaged wheel and 2 worn tyres plus brake fluid change). If they say the brake pads are worn, ask them to show you! Apparently this video evidence is being used more often by BMW service garages.
