Organising before moving

hello
We're waiting to complete and I was wondering if I'm fully ok to organise utilities before moving?
I'm wondering if organising a new internet connection with a new provider will impact on my credit record in the event of a pre-completion check?
Thank you

I wouldn't...but I would check out the deals available so I knew what I was going for as soon as we had completed.0

Waiting to complete but have you actually exchanged yet?0

And what happens when completion is delayed, as is so often the case?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Same as firebird. I'd check everything out for the new area and have all my plans in place but I wouldn't call and organise things until the keys are in your hand.[STRIKE]DFD 22/7/14[/STRIKE]

We have exchanged. We have a completion date for 3 weeks time. I need the internet for work but I guess I can give it 2 weeks once we've moved.
I did hesitate, so am glad I haven't set anything up yet. We've organised utility transfers with the current owner, as their suppliers are the same as ours. And what happens when completion is delayed, as is so often the case?
Completion is legally binding, isn't it. By 1pm on completion day all funds should be in place. I understand that this can sometimes falter, but the whole point of completion is for both parties to have a date that the money has to be transferred and removals etc. ready to go.0 -
You can't 'transfer utilities'. You close your accounts at the old property and then you are automatically in a deemed account with the existing provider at the new property once you occupy. Once you register for an account with them, you are free to switch again if you want to.
It will typically take 2-3 weeks for a BT line reconnection or new provision.
Yes, failure to complete on time could constitute breach of contract, but most sales involve chains, and it only takes one link to fail for the whole chain to be blocked. No free lunch, and no free laptop

That's what I meant. They close theirs and we carry on with their existing provider. Seemed easier that way.
Drat. re the line connection time. I guess I'll have to suck it up. I think getting it all through to completion alright is much more important.
Luckily our vendor will have moved out a few days before so all we're waiting on is our bank releasing money on time for our solicitor to transfer over to the vendor's solicitor (probably the bit most nerve wracking)0 -
My point was that there isn't any other way. You have to accept the deemed contract, you can't 'transfer' your existing account or supplier, and you can't switch until you have a supplier to switch from.
But since the supplies remain live anyway, it makes no difference. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks Macman. What do you think about internet? to leave it until we're in?
I've only moved rental to rental before and didn't have as much to lose then!0 -
When we sold/purchased in December we set up our internet (new provider, Virgin) as soon as we'd exchanged (eleven days before completion) and it was up and running a week after we completed. We run an Internet-based business from home so it was important to us to get it set up asap. This was better than the previous move in 2011 when it took BT three weeks.....Mortgage-free for fourteen years!
