Aldi super six by week plus recipes/thoughts

Hi All

I wanted to create a thread where the Aldi Super 6 are listed by week and how they are intended to be used. I will plan some of our meals around them so for me it's important to do this and hopefully help keep costs down.

So from 25th March they were:

Parsnips 39p
Leeks 29p
Snack Pack Grapes 49p
Mangetout 49p
Carrots 40p (1.2kg)
White Potatoes 39p (2.5kg)

I bought everything except grapes as we don't need them this week and mangetout as we had enough already.

Parsnips are awaiting use and will either be honey roasted or put into soup. I'm not overly keen on them so maybe honey roasting is a better option as I quite like them that way.

Leeks, carrots and spuds were used in Sunday lunch and were yum. Remaining leeks were used in chicken, leek, mushroom and pea pasta. Remaining carrots will be put into a soup and the potatoes mash with other teas. Not very adventurous but certainly will be used by us at our humble abode.

    Great idea....

This week, I bought 3 lots of leeks - sliced and frozen as we use them alot.
Carrots, quiet a big bag, will use for various meals this week including Sunday lunch - ditto spuds and parsnips.
Mange tout will join risotto and grapes to snack on.

A good all rounder in this super 6.

We just bought the leeks for more Leek and Potato Soup to warm us up in this chilly weather. We also love leeks in homemade bread sauce as an acomplement to roasted chicken.

The carrots will be lovely for Carrot and Coriandar soup while we are seeing out the last of the soup season. I'm dithering about a carrot cake too but am fearful of the calories!

I've got the parsnips as well and love them roasted but would love some fresh ideas with those.

Great idea for a thread BTW. ;)

Thanks for this thread. I shopped there last night and picked several items up.

Potatoes because though I had some I thought they were too good a bargain to miss.

Carrots- I always have in. I find them white cabbage and onions the best 'double duty' veg I have for making coleslaw, stir-frys, going with dinners. I also give the odd one to the kids rabbit.

Leeks, I'd just used my last on some leek and potato soup. These will either make more or go with a roast dinner.

Mangetout - Possibly as a side veg depending on what we're having (we have to go shopping for meat this weekend at the market so can't meal plan till then) or possibly for teenager to snack on, which is very much why I bought the

snack pack grapes - I thought it was a handy portion controlled pack for the teen to have whilst we are at work and it's school hols.

I'm with you on the carrots spend less. My boys eat a lot of them raw.

Carrots: I like them grated and then baked in the oven with a knob of butter, teaspoon of sugar and a splash of water. Carrot cake? Substitute for mash for those who can't have potatoes
Leeks: finely sliced to go on top of shephards or cottage pie. Saut!ed in butter - finely sliced, knob of butter in small pan then covered with crumpled baking paper to keep the steam in, gentle heat. Anything white sauce based.
Parsnips - blanched and frozen for roasting, also go well with sprinkle of Parmesan.

Great thread! I did something similar for awhile on this thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4462611

Since the supersix often repeat you might find some ideas there. I'll be watching with interest for some new ideas!

I've got three packs of the leeks this week--leek and bacon quiche, leek and bacon risotto and chicken and leek pie all made my list of meals. I've also made a savoury leek crumble before, and there is the old standby of leek and potato soup which uses the spuds.

I used carrots, parsnips and potatoes in a roast dinner. I used the leeks in leek, potato and bacon bake and more leeks in ham and leek cobbler. The mange tout were used in a stir fry and the grapes were snacked on.

It was a very good week for us this week. DH did question me buying 3 packs of leeks though.
